Deck Description

I don't believe I have made a Rafiq deck earlier. Peculiar.

This is a Budget Elder Dragon Highlander deck (BEDH for short). It is meant for the Elder Dragon Highlander format, a.k.a. Commander. If you are not familiar with the format, I'll link it below for you.

I mostly use MTG Vault for my own private projects nowadays, but feel free to comment or request a deck of your choice. I've loved the Vault so far, and I like that they are still improving on it, as well as I am improving on my English language skills.

So, if you like what you see, consider checking out some of my other budget-y work from the link below.

How to Play

Rafiq decks usually go all in the Exalted lifestyle, gaining benefits from multiple creatures with Exalted. This time I wanted to go into an another direction, only inserting a couple of cards with the Exalted-keyword, while all others merely synergise with the double strike provided by Rafiq.

"Deals combat damage to player" -effects become a real hassle for your opponents once you can just attack with a singular dude with additional buffs and double strike. This is especially true once you slap trample or similar abilities onto it via a multitude of artifacts, enchantments and even a couple of instants.

Outside of this hardcore beatdown, this deck includes a wide variety of control effects to really ruin your opponents' gameplans. Keep your dudes safe, and your opponents on their toes!

Pros:
+ Can begin its assault semi-early, and keep up the tempo throughout the game!
+ Able to dish out card advantage and other nasty benefits while kicking enemy ass!
+ A wide array of control options for those pesky opponents!

Cons:
- Quite reliant on Rafiq: Try to keep him around!

Deck discussion for BEDH: Formidable Formation

You've made a bunch.
Last time you were actually sure that you HAD made one but somehow couldn't find it.

Yea, I could swear I've done one before, but I just can't find it.
Personally I think I've been semi-consistent with my tag-usage, but you know, one can never be too certain.

I've read you swear you'd made one at least three times.
1500 + decks does that.

It's part of why I decided to cut down most of my own stuff.

Right now I'm working on partner half-decks, where I can pick two partner commanders and shuffle their corresponding 49-card decks together to make a completely new commander deck. My Bruse Tarl build is similar to this one. It's a deck idea I've always wanted to capitalize on properly. Maybe Shu Yun would make a good commander for stuff like this?

Absolutely.

Shu Yun could work wonders if your goal was to squeeze out as much damage as possible in a single attack. Red would give you access to some buff ups as well as a ton of burn, which all could help. Kiln Fiend is also a real powerhouse, capable of easily oneshotting players with some setup.

Blue would also be a great color to have in that there are a lot of creatures that draw a card on connecting with the opponent. Stuff like Curiosity.
