Deck discussion for Budget Decks: Stormbolts

wow i love this i may add another melek though but other than that this is amazing i owe you one and what would you think about replacing kilin fiend with nivix cyclops?

Not too horrible idea. Kiln Fiend is just 2-drop, but guess I can switch those.

Needs Lightning Bolt, as Lightning Bolt is arguably the best burn spell in existence. Adding a second Melek over Niv would probably be better, Vapor Snag over Voyage's End, including Wee Dragonnauts and/or Nivix Cyclops adds more Devotion for 1 more mana more than your Kiln Fiend. Niv-Mizzet the Firemind would be better than Dracogenious, especially since you can run Ophidian Eye or Curitosity for infinite Damage. Plus Curiosity on a Guttersnipe adds for some good times and plenty of draw. I like the deck either way, just some helpful suggestions to consider!

Yeah. Too bad that Lightning Bolt and the better Niv-Mizzet cannot fit in thanks to the budget deadline. I also wanted to have all the three different legendaries, since dunkadooball wanted it.

First off how doesn't Lightning Bolt fit a theme of budget, it is one of the cheapest cards and easiest ones to obtain. Secondly, sure the good Niv is pricey and doesn't fit the theme, I will give you that, however Lightning Bolt is easily affordable, as is Vapor Snag, that is two cards that not many people do not have and that are affordable. Just some suggestions and no they wont break anyone's budget. I have yet to meet a single player who plays ona budget and does not own a set of Snags and Bolts.

There's definitely better than kiln fiend. I can't remember names atm, but there's the elemental that doubles the damage of burn spells, and the satyr in the theros block that does something similar. Also, if its just casual then lightning bolts and shocks are great burn spells. Mana leak, spell pierce and vapor snag or unsummon are great for control.

He's steep on the CMC, but I've always loved charmbreaker devils in a good ole' dodge and burn deck. brings back an instant/sorcery at random from your graveyard every turn.

On the other side of the u/r, I just built a standard legal ARTIFACT deck. A little higher priced than your decks, but easily converted into a budget! Check her out: http://www.mtgvault.com/eljefe/decks/artification/

These type of decks are very nice. Red burn and blue control. It sure is tasty stuff!!!

This is casual, so considered Sphinx-Bone Wand?
That guy can get brutal, in long games, I have personally took 15 damage on a single turn with Wand against me. 7 one hit and then 8 the next hit. Plus you have the Goblin that lowers spells too...so Wand would get charged quickly. Would consider it for multiplayer games.

People are hating on Kiln Fiend, personally I love it as a second turn drop in this deck.
However, as the guy that requested the deck said (dooball) you could take it out for Nivix Cyclops.

If taking out Kiln Fiend...another good choice would be Wee Dragonauts. I think the Flying rocks.

If you get a moment, can you check out a deck of mine?
Definitely not budget...but I like the idea when I see the cards.
The deck is private, and has yet not been posted.

Any advice would rock!!!

I want to make 3 versions of flicker/blink cards: this is the first version. Land destruction.

I want to use the same flicker/blink cards to do a Pirate sack deck.
And one more deck with White Control.

Anyways,

dude this deck is rad bruh

Ohh, did you mean "bad brah"?
It is okay that you don't like this deck. It is budget. It doesn't have too many good cards.

0

Don't be so sensitive. "rad" means "great".

But aside from that, "budget" doesn't automatically translate "bad cards". Or, more precisely, budget decks can still have many good cards. Only a select few cards are actually expensive and many of them are because of rarity and availability. The majority of cards is available for considerably less than a dollar and among them there are tons of very good cards.

Sometimes I think the reason you do budget decks is so you can use "this is budget, it doesn't have to work well" as a shield against any criticism. Just sometimes.

Actually, the reason why I create budget decks is that I've found out that I'm not good at making the priceful ones. Also, If I create one, I'm sure that no-one will ever create it in real life or get any kind of advantage from it.
...and while I did say what I did say, I also agree with that budget doesn't really mean "bad". I just thought that he didn't like it, so I wanted to avoid fighting. Also, since I used so much budget on Keranos, it didn't leave me too much budget-room for other cards.

Think - if nobody would ever build more expensive decks, why are those cards so expensive in the first place? Also, a lot of players play with proxied cards or use clients like Cockatrice to play online. And, many players are actually smart enough to recognize good strategies, combos and deck structures and are able to work around certain expensive ones when on a budget. Finally, this is a trading card game. You can actually buy and sell stuff. The good thing about buying more expensive cards like fetch lands is that you can be sure to get your money back if you sell them. Which means, you can actually assemble a 200 dollar deck and when you got sick of it, you sell that stuff and buy the cards you need for the next 200 dollar deck. So, for an one-time investment of 200 dollar you will have an unlimited amount of 200 dollar decks, just not at the same time. And if you need money in a pinch, well ...
So, the problem is much smaller than you think. But I understand that that's your schtick and it's fine. It's just so difficult to reply to - you know, I see a deck, cards that I would add pop up in my head but then I have to check the price on every single card before I can make a suggestion ...

Pyroclasm kills off your own key creatures (Guttersnipe and Electromancer) so I don't think that's a good idea.

No Electrolyze?

Char isn't exactly good. Psionic Blast is because it's blue, but red has better choices, even on budget, Barbed Lightning for example. or Fiery Temper - it would combo with Compulsive Research.

I agree that Negate is a good counterspell for a deck like this (because you can deal with creatures quite well) but that Essence Backlash is a huge gamble. I don't see that working outside multiplayer 8and this doesn't look like a multiplayer deck). For just one mana more you can get Prophetic Bolt.

0

Prophetic Bolt is a card that I can't unfortunately add. dunkadooball who inspired me with this deck didn't want too old cards, and the Bolt hasn't come from a booster for a long time. That is one reason why I'm replacing Char now. Some more Staggershocks, maybe?

0

Prophetic Bolt has been reprinted two times. Once in Commander (2011) and once in the Izzet vs Golgari duel deck (2012). That's not exactly old. And you can get them for less than 50 cents.

What do you think about browbeat

0
Posted 12 August 2014 at 15:01

Browbeat would be my suggestion to replace Compulsive Research but it's slightly above one dollar ... so, if you don't even run Electrolyze because of budget restraints ...

Awesome deck! Ireally like Izzet and this is a great one. I have a deck like this one but it is more based around instants and Sorceries that draw cards and cards like Wee Dragonauts that boost when you play sorceries. if you don't mind check it out here.
