Deck Description

Based on ideas I've seen floating around various websites, so I in no way claim to have invented this deck on my own, but I have modified it to my liking using my own ideas.

Pretty straightforward. Ideally a turn 1 Quest with some free Artifact Creatures and Glint Hawks lands a turn 2 argentum armor.

I like the addition of blue. Trinket mages to find Memnites/Thopters, man land for 2ndary win con, adds Unified Will to SB to combat control.

Deck discussion for Standard UW Quest

Why the Blue splash? It really seems like it only waters down the deck. Maybe if you were running Mox Opal, I could maybe see justifying it as a way to combo off more reliably on turn 3 (turn 3 Mage up Mox, play Mox, use it for a Glint Hawk and probably be able to use Quest on a creature from the previous turn), but even then it's a stretch.

I never understand why Student of Warfare doesn't see play in Quest decks. He comes down early, can give you a late game, and with only a WW investment, you get to add on +2/+2 and First strike. WWWWW after that and it's another +1/+1and you get Double strike. Seems like a good back up plan to me.

The Blue splash is for 3 things, in order of importance:
1. Trinket Mage, which gets you 2 bodies for 3 mana.
2. Unified Will, great against several matchups.
3. The manland

I like the idea of Student of Warfare and Mox Opals, moreso the Student.

Seems like the manland would slow you down. And in match ups where you'd want Will, I'd imagine you'd be better off just being more consistent / faster.

The big problem with Quest decks is that they're very inconsistent, and adding blue doesn't solve that problem, other than Trinket Mage tutoring up a Memnite / Ornithopter.

Good point. To be honest, I'm trying to put together a decent, cheap deck for my re-entrance to Standard play in over a decade. I found a great gaming store to play at and will be starting FNM there this week. But I have no idea what the meta is like, so a cheap deck that can be tinkered with or at the worst scrapped seems like a good way to start for me, and Quest WW or WU seems like it is cheap and capable of winning a fair amount, not to mention fun.

If you looking to put together a cheap / decent list, you'd probably be better off running a varient on BR Vampires. One did very well at Worlds and it can be built for around $178, and about $140 if you ignore the Fetchlands it used. BR is the cheapest of the top decks in Standard right now, and it's got a very solid all-around game plan, not to mention that it's fun to Mark of Mutiny the other guys best creature, swing at them with it, then sac it to Viscera Seer to improve your card quality.

The deck I use (http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=127265) has a pretty solid game plan VS most of the field from what I've seen / tested, and while it's not cheap (around $280), most of the deck is cheaper then BR Vampires, it's just the 4 Koth of the Hammers it runs that really brings the price tag up. It's pretty open to tweeks for any given meta, and if you scrap it, the Koths would be solid for any Red based deck you build afterwards and the rest of the price tag makes it less of a "loss". Feel free to check it out, it might be just what you're looking for.

Funny you should mention BR vampires, it's the other deck I am considering, also based on the one that made Top 8 at Worlds.

It's a solid, budget friendly deck. Since you said that's what you were after, it should come as a surprise that someone should bring it up. If your choice is between BR Vampires and Wx Quest, you'd best go with Vampires since the deck is more consistent, and has posted better results over all.

Ajani should come out for unsummon.

I have to respectfully disagree here. But creature removal is a good point. Perhaps I should work journey to nowhere into the deck. I may have to go back to mono-white...

Not for their creatures, for your own. Imagine bouncing a trinket mage back or a glint hawk. Easy 2 counters.

I must agree, i've seen this deck in action including the students and it is nasty.

Was that Mono-W w/ Student or UW w/ Student?

I'd take out Ajani, 1 Sword, and 1 Argentum Armor for Mana Leaks. I don't see how you can play blue and run no form of control/counter.

I might have to change the land makeup a bit, but how would Into The Roil fare?

Into The Roil would probably be helpful to you, but definitely not in place of Mana Leaks.

Theres a one blue cost spell that makes you draw 3 cards. you just need to tap 4 creatures. also get wall of omens x4. between those two you will have good draw power

Blue gives the deck draw power, which was missing, as well as access to more control elements.

I played the stright white version of this deck, I found it wasn't very consistant, but when it was...oh man. I had a deck thrown at me =]. If you want consistancy, you might want to look towards the future(knight tribal?) I've been playtesting the knight tribal deck in my area and it's pretty decent. Not the same idea with what you're going for, but still white :P...

I'd drop a sword of body and mind in favor of a sword of vengence as trample can win you many games...
also, why ajani over journey? journey eliminates a blocker so you can feel free to keep blasting away at their lands and swing in for lots of early damage. ajani seems kinda built for a late game, last ditch effort but maybe I'm wrong. How're you using him?
