Maybe Griselbrand would work better with the black ramp?

http://community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/75842/29877095/Competetive_Standard_MBC_(Mono-Black_Control) My friend is ralphie the alien and his deck has been doing quite well at the past 3 fnms, top 8 in all.

That was a good read - some ideas I hadn't thought of. Gives me hope that this could turn out somewhat competetive

Well the only mana ramp you have is crypt ghast (one of my favs). You only run two though AND he is ALWAYS a target soon as he hits the field. I run him in my extort deck where I extort for petty until I get him out then drop BIG mothers and finally dept to the deathless for game. I also wouldn't run blood artist in this deck since you aren't forcing deaths out of yourself (self sac or undying for ex). Other than skirsdag and desecration demon, I don't see much win condition. Take a took at my new desecration demon deck... it should shed some light on how to make EACH creature a win condition in standard. :)

Yeah I think you're right about blood artist.. I just had hopes of some synergistic combo with desecration demon. I do want to keep this mono black (can't afford to shell out for dual and shock lands right now) but I have a few lord of the void lying around. I'll try sneaking them in instead most likely. Would you suggest 4 crypt aghast in that case then?

Yes, 4 ghasts. You can run underworld connections instead of sign in blood. It allows you to draw a card each turn instead of 2 at once. For board wipe put in other 2 mutilates and put in 4 undying evil--An instant that will give target creature undying. So say you have crypt ghast and they kill it--BOOM he's still there and +1 stronger. OR board wipe with mutilate and use undying evil on lord of void and --BOOM you have the only creature on either side of field and it's beefy!! Also, if you take away all your murder type cards and instead put in butcher of malikar and small creatures with sac abilities(bloodthrone can sac your other creatures to make itself stronger-good to survive mutilate then swing) you can be more aggresive AND more creature eliminating.

Looks good.

Those nasty 1/1 Deathtouch rats are good if you want some early blockers. Prevents your opponent from attacking you with even big creatures in the games early rounds.

And Dash Hopes is good in any mono-black deck.

I like what your doing, the only thing I would reccomend is 2 more mutilates. You have control going for you however with so many creature based decks out there mutilate is absolutely incredible. Its in all reality a black wrath that reaches around indestructable in standard and damn will it work beautifully for this deck. Beautifully. IF you draw the game out long enough just saying something like "mutilate for -14" would be hilarious!
