Deck Description

A simple, budget white deck that has a good enough match up against most of the aggressive decks in the format, with enough removal and preasure to go toe-to-toe with any Jeskai varient, Rabble Red and even the dreaded Ascendancy Combo.

How to Play

Simply put, you want to stick down your three pillars as early as possible, these are Eidolon of Rhetoric, The best as shutting down combo decks and can really slow down mono red and can mess up control's plan, They can stop one of your threats per turn, and they really want to be cleaning your field regularly. The second is Spirit of the Labyrinth, stopping control and Jeskai from getting any advantage from their suite of draw spells and turns Treasure Cruise into a dead card. And the Final Pillar is Aegis of the Gods, this can stop them interacting with you for a lot of cards, Turn two thoughtseize's off a temple should be no threat if you drop him early, and you want to use anything you can to protect him. With all three down they can't target you, they can't draw into answers sooner and they can't use more than one of them per turn. After this is down you should have no worries winning, this is how.

The only problem with the Three Pillars is they aren't the best in combat, Eidolon of Countless Battles and Herald of Anafenza can really help with this, giving you the choice of going vertical (stick Eidolon onto an outlasted Herald) or going horizontal by creating three or four threats and force your opponent to deal with them. And Seeker of the Way helps with this hugely. With the ability to gain lifelink and get bigger when you protect it or answer a threat it can help race with 6-10 point life swings each turn and can win you games in unanswered.

The deck only runs 7 main deck pieces of removal, the 4 Banishing Lights are there to deal with Planeswalkers and Enchantments. The 3 Devouring Lights can destroy anything from Rabblemaster or Sarkahn. The ten ways to protect creatures come in the form of 4 Gods Willing, 3 Feat of Resistances and 3 Ephemeral Sheilds. The first two are great against spot removal and surprise blocks and the two small benefits of Scrying and the slight boost of stats can stack up over a few turns. Finally Spear of Heliod and Launch the Fleets can speed the games clock up two, three or even four turns against certain opponents or could end the game there and then, especially if used together.

The biggest threat to this deck is Stormbreath Dragon, with it being impossible to answer the only choice is to race and hope to get some life back with Seeker of the Way. But you can side into a vastly more aggressive deck.

Now the sideboard, the 2 Erase and 1 Diecide explain themselves, Ascendancy and Gods, problems that need answering in different ways. Side all three in if you think you need one. Nyx-Fleece comes in against aggressive decks, take out a mixture of the protection spells for them. Suspension Field is your answer to other large threats like Anafenza, Brimaz and Mantis Rider, anything that can take the game to fast to deal with. Hushwing Griff, Master of Pearls and Fabled Hero come in against Stormbreath Dragon decks, this is how you out race them. Use Master's flip when Seeker of the Way has lifelink to give a huge life swing, Hero to get more and more damage in and Hushwing to take it to the air and get over any any threats and it answers Rabble Red's Purphoros late game plan.

You should be able to pick this deck up for less than a playset of Fetches right about now, with most of the cards being very cheap.

Pros:
Cheap, Fun and test's your opponents skill.
Shouldn't need much practice to learn all the cards and is a great first FNM deck.
Looks like an aggro deck, plays like a midrange and can side into a semi-control deck and is hard to side against.
Is essentially a massive toolkit.

Cons:
Stormbreath.
Is weak to the same removal that is used against the decks it is good against.
Its success is essentially local Meta dependent.
Is not the strongest the deck can be.

Upgrades:
Ajani, Steadfast buffs your whole team.
Brimaz is too strong not think of.
Elspeth would be a huge upgrade to Master of Pearls.
