Counter as much as you can, then make your move late game. All the wizards have different abilities, which are good late game or early game. The lighthouse chronologist is incredible in control matchups

no counterspell? i'd go for a set of counterspell rather than mana leak by late game. rewind is a good counter as well. temporal adetp is a great creature control for mono blue.
