Deck Description

The brand-spankin' new commander deck. Honestly the only one I could get my hands on when they were first on the shelves. This was also the first deck that I build first, planned later. Opened it up, threw some of my favorite Naya stuff in, and just played. The original deck was a "lots of land" kinda build, so I kept that element. Lots and lots of landfall and playing and switching lands. There's also a few cards to combat some of the other popular Commander decks (erhemmindsiezeeternalbargain!). This deck has a good tempo, because this commander fills in the gaps. He was built to be played over and over and over again, and the land feed keeps it going. Definitely a strong multiplayer build.

How to Play

Play Marath. Just do it. Normally an easy thing to do turn three. Use Marath. He's your commander, it's fine to let him die in battle or take out a few creatures on the way. the more you play him, the stronger he gets. It goes a little something like this:

First cast - Hey, I'm a 3/3! I might not be big, but my early game will sure get annoying.

Second cast - I'm a fat 5/5 beast. I can make a dent in your defenses and power my forces. I might even be bigger due to Mighty Emergence or Doubling Season.

Third casting - My midgame will be your endgame. I'm a 7/7, at least. Don't get in my way.

Fourth Casting - Don't even try, I'm not leaving.

Feel Marath bitches.

Deck discussion for Feel Marath!

In my opinion, Marath works best in an almost tribal Beast deck. Coat of Arms and Door of Destinies makes Marath downright frightening. My version of it looks like this:

Tribal decks normally get focused in my play group, especially edh. I've played this deck a lot and the land ramp is really solid against board wipes and gets the deck moving quickly.
I feel like Marath is more of a weapon than a theme. He does really well as long as you keep using him, but not if you use only him.
