Deck discussion for Mono Red Burn (Modern)

Young Pyromancer and Magma Jet are missing. Eidolon is HIGHLY over rated in general and in a deck that has 34 cards with CCM 3 or less will toast you more then your opponent .

I think young pyro really sucks in burn. Its not a deck that wants to be attacking all that much. If this is for modern you need rift bolt, grim lavamancers, goblin guide, and like viking said magma jet. You have too many miracle cards, it makes it too high of a chance to have them in your opening hasnd.

Young Pyromancer does two things very well for burn:
Game 1 he provides tons of blockers so you can use your burn the way your deck was designed to, and Game 2-3 he provides potential attackers that are now crucial as your opponent just sideboarded in cards that at the very least turned your burn into nothing but removal and at the worst into dead cards that does nothing but feed YP.

Burn is such a fragile decktype in any format because it is so easily dealt with after sideboarding. It needs something additional to make it even remotely competitive and that is where YP comes in...

I gotta disagree. look at the modern mono red burn decklists going around. i dont think young pyromancer is a bad card. if he was a one drop he would be on legacy playlists. but the 2CMC slot is a small oone in mono red burn, and what would you take out for him? on the creature side you have goblin guide, vexing devil and grim lavamancer. hes not better than them. on the spell side you would lose magma jet, searing blaze, or one of your 16 bolts (lightning bolt, shard volley, rift bolt, lava spike.) guttersnipe is to high on the mana curve, young pyro is better than him on this decklist. but as far as teir one burn goes he doesnt make the cut. check out this decklist, won 2nd at states modern in MT-

young pyro seems to be on alot of tournament-quality storm decks i see floating around

No offense to paulsturr and his deck but it will never win anything remotely competitive as it sits right now.
With that in mind YP works rather well here as a Guttersnipe replacement and will assist him greatly in what he is trying to do with this deck.
If this was a tournament deck of any sort then Guide and Lavamancer is superior to YP but not without a massive rebuild of the rest of the deck.

YP is a wet dream for a storm deck, basically a static Empty the Warrens.

BTW: Tier 1 burn deck is rather an oxymoron. Spellskite sits in loads of sideboards, (for several reasons), and in several mains. Ethersworn Canonist the same. Kitchen Finks are everywhere and a rising star that hits burn to is Suppression Field. Add to that random life gainers and Games 2-3 are a struggle for burn, (and that is if they even won the first one). To bad, because I loved playing the old Sligh style toasters...

I know magicviking, if he went young pyro instead of guttersnipe it would be an improvement. Mono red is a fading teir one deck... i feel like all any mono-colored deck is just not cutting it. mono black control used to be a modern player too.

well regardless i think it is still a good deck. eidolon of great revel helps, along with skullcrack, but i do like your suggestions on this. my suggestions are a bit more sweeping

those 6 (SIX!) miracle cards are killing me though

Guys, this isn't meant to be a competitive deck. I play for fun with my buddies. We often play two's and guttersnipe is better than YP in 2's. I play with 7 miracles because if i do draw a Thunderous Wrath with Increasing Vengeance in hand that's half a 1v1 health with 3 mana.

well then, reverberate?

Increasing Vengeance does the same with flashback for the same CMC. I could add more but then I think the burn to doubling spell ratio's would be a little off.

Zak: I totally see where you are coming from and trust me when I say that it hurts me to see a "kitchen table" deck cost more then a truly competitive one! A few trades and some playtesting could turn this slowpoke into something we would all enjoy playing.
