Deck Description

Ok after my first try, I re-evaluated my aura picks for this deck. Decided that some auras could be cycled through and others fit better. One of the key things will be cheap casting auras in hand.

With a weak set of creatures, I need to be able to cast an umbra on the turn they come into play and rely on their abilities to do most of the pumping.

It is possible with a Kor Spiritdancer in hand on turn 2 to have a 10/12 first strike lifelinker on turn three.

Turn four could result in an 13/14 or 14/15 first strike with trample and lifelink, or even more if drawn into correctly. not to mention that it might be untargetable by opponents and unblockable by non-flyers...

Without Kor in hand, it would be slower but still something to worry about for others. I want to label this tournament quality, but I am not brave enough to presume it is until i play it more often and the meta game adjusts to it.

So lets look at this deck.
Kor Spritdancer is the gem. Its does several things.
1) its cheap.
2) it gets +2/+2 for each aura attached
3) you may draw a card when you play an aura.
Follow that up with 20 auras in the deck. 12 costing 1 mana,
These cheap auras hav built in abilities, but with a kor spirit dancer in hand on turn two, you can look at them all having at least the following "Enchanted creature gets +2/+2, Draw a card" on top of the ability built into the enchantment.
So the auras grant the following,
Lifelink - lifelink
Hyena - +1/+1 and first strike with totem
Spider - +1/+1 and reach with totem armor
Canopy Cover - unblockable except by flyers and reachers. (Spider and Canopy is ghetto flyer) Shroud for opponents only
Savage Hunger - +1/+0 with TRAMPLE! =) Cheapest trample in standard.

This is your main offensive. I would recommend a mulligan down to 4 to get you a kor and a plains. Once a kor is out, you will not be in much need for cards after that. You will catch up quickly.

Any opponent would be wise to wipe out your kor asap. don't put it at risk until you start getting an umbra or canopy. 1 in 12 is good chance. take it from the opponent if you have to. you will recover shortly.

Second phase and recovery. If somehow they survive your first offensive with clever play.
Sovereigns - exalted with search for an aura. lets see what aura would I get...
Eldrazi Conscription - +10/+10, TRAMPLE, with annihilator 2.
So the opponent survives this attack somehow and wipes the board somehow. outcomes the final blow. Open the vaults. if they blow it all, you can bring it all back for an unblockable attack.

"But what if I have no creatures?"
enter your two man lands.
Stirring Wildwood - 3/4 for 3. Although this will require 8 mana to do, it is fully possible at this point in the game where you be casting open the vaults.
Celestial is just to use when open is not available. Also remember that if you get too many cards in hand, to dump the expensive auras in the graveyard. Open will get them out, if you have a creature waiting for it, then all the better. (Good way to get rid of eldrazi conscription)

Now lets talk Aura Gnarlid. It may well be your main attacker while the kor is the blocker. Put an umbra on it or canopy as soon as possible. While it attacks, it counts all the auras for the +1/+1 bonus. it can't be blocked unless it meets a creature that is more powerful. lifelink is good for it as well.

Sideboard:
Sideboard is for siding in against specific threats.
Spreading seas for Valakut
Trace of Abundance for land destruction or mana shorting effects
Nimbus wings - for flight heavy opponents
Luminous wake - good for both you and your opponent's creatures. its like a -4/-0 to the opponent. also this will be fine if the opponent has no creatures when you open the vaults. (guard duty or pacifism for example would end up on one of your creatures, if your opponent has no creatures.)

Deck discussion for Aura the Vaults Standard - Part Deux

I really like where this deck is going. It's definately in my budget and it looks like it can become a potential threat in games to come. I'm thinking of scooping up these cards before they go up in price. Please reply and tell me how this deck runs against a traditional Jund, Mono Red Burn, and Mono Green Ramp decks. Thanks :)

The Sovereigns and open are difficult with the current design.

I am rebuilding the deck. I will post back when it is complete. This is much faster and far more aggressive version.

Somethings I have "learnt' include Aura Gnarlid is the best attacker while the kor spiritdancer works better as the blocker and the finisher. Day of Judgment works well with this deck. DoJ, Bear Umbra attack, open the vaults.

I will post the updated version tomorrow night. .
