Four-color gates has been really fun to play in Standard, but I need to come up with a game plan for certain decks I have a hard time with. Esper control and Burn top the list (at least around me). I started with a list I found online (mtggoldfish I believe it was) and tweaked the one-of or for-funsies cards. The addition of counterspells, in the main and side, is to give me more to interact with my opponent's game. I have creatures that are really hard to beat, removal that nukes the field, life-gain and card-draw mainboard. So the game-plan is to use those flexible slots (cards that aren't part of the ramp/card-draw/creature package) for counterspells to stop by opponent from doing, whatever they are trying to do before the colossus comes down to wreck their @#$%.
My side-board steals a page from the mono-blue decks going around, with the addition of "Dive Down" and "Negate". If I can slap away a few removal spells, counter a board wipe here or there, and get creatures onto the field that either can't be countered or have hexproof, maybe I can dodge enough removal to get through. Gate Colossus already has a way to come back from the deck, and if I can protect him long enough I can hopefully close out the game.
