Deck discussion for Izzet my turn?

Perhaps fated infatuation isn't the best card for this deck, seeing as you only have 7 creatures main board. Perhaps try fitting some steam augury on the main board.

I think you're right. Perhaps that or Ral Zarek? Steam Augury has great synergy with the Chimera, So I can drop divination for it and put in Ral Zarek for a little flexibility/burn.

goblin electromancer makes this deck very powerful, particicularly if you have 2 of them out. reduces all of you instants to 1 and 2 mana spells. very good use here. and you said that Hypersonic was a placeholder for Keranos, which I assume is in the next set. what does it do?

hm... since your chimera is supposed to be the damage dealer here, I would suggest throwing in some evasion spells to keep him from being blocked and killed because of his low defense. perhaps Teleportal would fit well here? and with the electromancers out, you could play it for overload, at no additional cost. :)

Thanks for the feedback. I need to test it more to see if extra evasion is needed. Right now I can use Dissolve, Izzet Charm, and Dispell to evade spells. Cyclonic Rift, Nullify, Turn // Burn, and it's Flying + Trample to get over the top of creatures.

Keranos is same CMC as Hypersonic Dragon (good placeholder imo). He's Izzet God, requires 7 U/R devotion to become a 6/5 creature. First draw of every turn (reveal card) - if land draw an extra card, if non-land does 3dmg to target player or creature.

hm... ok, I see. so you rely on the burn to take care of creatures big enough to kill the chimera. That makes sense then. but it sill seems to be lacking something, but I am not sure what. overall though it looks fun to play with. :)

Thank you! Take a look at Keranos, I think he's just the right flavor for this deck. Let me know if you think of anything, and feel free to critique any of my other decks.

Sure, I will certainly do that. And feel free to check out any of mine as well. :)

This looks a lot like the build that I was moving towards. I had the Electromancers, Izzet Charms, Magma Jets, even the Hypersonic Dragon as a placeholder! However, I wasn't sure about Spellheart. I've actually played with that card a decent bit trying to make Grixis work, and it has just never worked for me. I don't know, maybe this is a good time to give it another chance. But something you will definitely be interested in is Spite of Mogis, another card coming out in Jou. I was also playing around with Oracle of Bones, Thoughtflare, and Mizzium Mortars.

Spite of Mogis is definitely making into this deck! Thanks for the feedback. Once JOU is out I can finish building it and do some real testing.

With Chimera you really have to feed the graveyard. Cards like Steam Augury make it seem worth while IMO. More testing is required.

Yeah the thing is that I'm definitely playing Spite of Mogis (too good to pass up), but then when I added Spellheart too I just came to the conclusion that it was too weak to graveyard hate. Like a Rest in Peace out of the side would make 8 cards dead? No thank you.

Good thinking, I should adjust my sideboard for that possibility. Off the top of my head I'm thinking replacing Chimera with Epic Experiment and Ral Zek. Would change the curve, but give me some late-game answers and turn it into a control/burn deck.

The biggest graveyard hate I could think of as a threat was Scavenging Ooze. With it's ability requiring mana, I am content to let them shrink my Chimera at the expense of playing fewer monsters in Jund Monsters :). Honestly I don't think many people are side boarding Rest in Peace right now in my meta. Then again, even if they are playing cards like Rest in Peace and Scavenging Ooze, I have answers in the main and side like Dissolve, Izzet Charm, Nullify, & Cyclonic Rift.

Nice Izzet deck! You should be proud of 27 instants!

I think cascade bluff would serve you better than steam vents.

Oh, and that thing you are "missing" is a creature that directly benefits from casting instants. Oh well, you don't need one.

Think about removing stormbreath dragon ... I don't see how he fits. I think that Gelectrodre, Wee Dragonauts, or Nivix Cyclops are all better choices.

Thank you very much! I can't use Cascade bluffs, as I am trying to keep it "Standard", however Temple of Epiphany does well here. Scry is a burn deck's best friend next to card draw. Spellheart Chimera does really well with this many instants... nothing like doing damage and having your creatures get bigger because of it. Flying + Trample don't hurt, either. Stormbreath Dragon does well against the Control decks I see. Immune to D-sphere and haste means I get maximum value, flying gets over the top.

Still ... that electrode ... maybe you can sideboard it.

Oh, and in response to your deck's name (which is a dirty trick to play on your opponent's turn).

"No! Do you need me to 'spell' it out for you?! Stop asking me this 'instant'!"

"Hey, I'm just asking. I can help it, since most of what I know is not 'permanent'!"

for a card that gets a benefit from casting sorcs and instants, you could run blistercoil weird.

Gelectrode isn't Standard, but he looks mighty sweet. Blistercoil Weird is a solid choice. I really like Chimera because he benefits even if my spells are wasted on creatures or don't resolve, they still end up in the graveyard.

oh, another creature that benefits from the instants and sorcs: Nivmagus elemental. not sure that I really like this card too much, but... maybe?

also, with blistercoil, it always takes effect, even if it doesn't resolve. It just has to be cast.

Alright, FYI, the 2 most ridiculous creatures that benefit from instants and sorceries are Guttersnipe and Kiln Fiend. Izzet Guilmage w/ Training Camp is broken, and Gelectrode is plain awesome. If you have training camp, make to bring Brimstone Mage and Echo Mage too.

Ahhhh good ole Guttersnipe... our friend and ally. Play a card, and take a Shock my friend! If you guys have a spare minute, can you check out my Junk Midrange deck? It's been doing pretty well lately methinks. I'm not 100% on the sideboard. I have Athreos and Elspeth, but I feel like I could do something different.

Updated to reflect some changes. I added Thassa to the deck, her consistent scry not only ensures good draws, but can directly feed into Keranos's ability to ensure you get the effect you want.
