Deck Description

Recently I made what I call the World's worst deck
(Deck link: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=194349 )
it can force you to loss 99% of the time by turn two by your playing various Pact Cards.

I got to wondering what if I could force my opponent to duplicate play a Pact card and thus on their turn if they are unable to pay Pact cost and they lose before I do because their duplicate spell goes off before mine does due to spell stacking.

To my suprise there is just such a card that does just that; Hive Mind!!!!

Hive Mind
Enchantment, 5U (6)
Whenever a player casts an instant or sorcery spell, each other player copies that spell. Each of those players may choose new targets for his or her copy.

Suddenly, I realize, I could make a deck that could go from one from world's worst to a really good deck to just by adding a few cards: Hive Mind, Show and Tell, and some search cards and a few counter spell cards.

Here's my new very, very, much improved world's worst deck turned into a really good deck.

Spell stacking or not, if you just cast the Pact at their untap step, their upkeep hits right after that, and they'll lose if they don't have the right color mana. You wouldn't lose until your upkeep, which would be after their entire turn.

Very neat idea. The only thing I might do is add in some myr's instead of Emrakul or a sphere of the suns, so you can get out Hive mind a turn earlier.

Unless I'm mistaken, the pacts trigger when your upkeep starts. If its their turn, they have already given up priority to cast spells during their upkeep and passed it to you.

If you cast a pact, and they also then cast the pact with hive mind, any beginning of upkeep triggers will be too late. You have to do it during your own end step.

Hi Insanity228,

Thanks for input. It is hoped that Show and Tell, Ancient Tomb and City of Traitors are enough help to get out Hive Mind with counterspell backing . 4 Soul Rings also would help but I want to keep the deck legacy legal.

I'd recommend Mystical Tutor that way you can get show and tell when needed or a pact thats off-color from the opponents deck if you don't have one.

Hi Maledictor,

Thanks for input.

Mystical Tutor is an excellent card for this deck if you don't mind it not being legacy illegal. Unfortunately,
I do so I'm going to have to say no. Feel free to use them if playing in a casual environment this deck is for tourney use.

My bad I didn't realize that one was banned.

As a casual player that does alot of massive multiplayer, I will also point out that this has the potential kill ALL of your opponents in the event that you successfully cast your CMC 6 (or CMC 3 w/ S&T) combo... One at a time as their upkeeps come up.

Hate to break it to you, but hive mind has been around for a whileee.
It's such a good combo.

Hive Mind combo happened the year it was printed I think... Not sure, didn't play then.

I've seen a good few of these decks running about, I was cheering it on against the FoWless Bant. If you like strange niche combo decks, you should check out the four horsemen on salvation. It's even more 'wait whaaa' than hive :O

Hey WhiteAndBlueTheyKillYou,

Thanks for the input. Any suggestions for improving mana base or finding the Hive?

Do you have a link to a four horsemen on salvation deck and FOWless Bant?

Sorry didn't get back to you sooner, I had spent some time up in the mountains :D

I've not really tried to build this, so I can't say anything on the mana base, but most lists I see just run Brainstorm and Ponder for search. Of course this means fetches, which can sometimes be a pain.

I'm currently looking for the four horsemen link, if I can find it I'll post again. The FOWless list should be somewhere in the proven section for legacy, it'd just be categorized as bant.

maybe adding emrakul would help as a secondary win con too

dembones,

Yes, I agree, Emrakul makes a good finisher. If I substitute Emrakul for some Pacts the deck might
become stronger.

Thanks for input.

xsaedren,

Glad you like the combo. I guess its been around awhile. Like you I hadn't heard of it before and I just stumbled on it again because my world worst deck using all the Pact to force itself to lose and I rediscovered the the hive mind combo and with Pacts as I looked for a way to turn my world's worst deck into a good deck.

You have any decks you want me to look at?

This is awesome, i would absolutely love to bring this to a multi-player game. I would laugh my ass of.

Yeah, this deck iscan brutal fast multi-kill early in the game when opponent's don't have enough mana to pay the Pact upkeep. But if you what to spring it later in the game I would suggest adding
some way to tap out or destroy all lands.

I have never seen a deck quite so evil as this right here.

Why thank you, JaceTheMindsculptor,

You're making me blush.

I sort of like the thought of being known for creating evil decks.
But I have to defer to surewhynot as the current top evil genius here at MTG vault.
Check out surewhynot's Pure Evil Deck at
http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=114110
as an example of his evilness.

Show n Tell is a dirty dirty card I am boycotting it

with a name like bluewins,

I sort of doubt your serious about boycotting Show and Tell.
But I can understand your feeling about its brokeness.
After all Tinker is banned in Legacy format and Show and Tell is in some way even more broken than
Tinker.
And banning Show and Tell really doesn't do much good because there's still Shape Anew, Fabricate, and possibly Reshape to take its place.

Nice deck by the way, it so happens that Hive mind deck is on the rise again, just a couple of weeks ago a SCG legacy tournament was won using hive mind. It can outright win on turn 2 or 3 with ease.

Put in some Grim Monoliths, It's a Legacy Ramping staple. It's pretty good. It can get a turn 3 Hive Mind Out.
