Deck Description

Standard(2012. december)... Junk Superfriends...

...I've been thinking on running only 3 Restoration Angel, but the combo with Tusk & Wurm is amazing...

...I'm not sure if I need that 1 Vault of the Archangel... ...may be a Cavern of Souls in the main deck instead (2 already in the sideboard)...

Elvish Visionary was a great stabileser, but I've changed it to Oblivion Ring since I've had very few removal in the main deck...

I like Nevermore against control decks with few finisher(s), but 1 more Rest in Peace & 1 more Abrupt Decay might have been better...

...2 Borderland Ranger & 2 Selesnya Keyrune might have been better, than the corrent setup, because I can combo the Ranger with Restoration Angel(though it's not too much of an adventage & I usually use her on Thrag, or the Wurm)... ...Keyrune is not easy to deal with, since it could only get shot, or destroyed on instant speed... ...I find the keyrune highly effective with Sorin's 2nd ability....... :)

...what are your suggestions?..

How to Play

...depends on what I'm up against... ...if my opponent runs wipes, than I'll wait until he/she uses up all/most of it, before I cast Armada Wurm(wich could only be gotten rid of in one step by a wipe)...

Angel of Serenity is nice to cast before my opponent would unleash a wipe, so I can save my creatures, that are on board...

...usually I keep Oblivion RIng back & chose carefully what I target with it... ...Sever the Bloodline is good for both early & late-game, since it has a very useful Flashback ability... :)

Vraska is the card I like to keep for later most of the time... ...when the board's got cleared, or nearly cleared, she's easy to ultimate(though, I need to look out for Sever, Detention Sphere & wipes)... ...she's also good to cast mid-game, when I have other planeswalker, or some creatures on board... ...her 2nd ability could change the complection in an instant, as the opponent's greatest adventage shatteres(unless it's Geist of Saint Traft/Sigarda)... ...Vraska's 1st ability makes her hard to deal with without Dreadbore/Detention Sphere/Oblivion Ring(though I have Abrupt Decay, Golgari Charm & Oblivion Ring in the sideboard against Detention Sphere, Oblivion Ring & stuff.......

...Sorin & Thragtusk are my early-game players & both great also in mid & late-game.......

Deck discussion for Junky Conference

I drew a lot of sample hands and all I got was crap. The best that I got was a visionary, land and 4+ cost cards. The ramp cards never showed up, though there was always at least 2 land in the opening hand. How is the deck working for you(?) because it looks like it would do well.

The "draw sample hand" option here gives very inrational opening hands & so... ...sometimes, there are 9 lands consecitively...

The deck is stabil & competative, as I tried it against many of my decks & playtested with some of my friends... ...I have 12 ramp cards & 23 lands, plus 4 draw spell, so it's more than fine :)

...rarely, it happens, that all I get in the early game is 1-2 Keyrune, no Pilgrim, no Visionary, no Farseek, & it still works out great, 'cuz if I don't get that much ramp, I'm still getting at least 4 lands early, so I can play a Thragtusk on tuen 4 in the worst case cinerio... :)

...I've seen, that decks, like this(only much-much weaker) could beat even competative America & Bant control decks 3-0, so I wanted to try it out... ...but this could not beat either of my R/U/W, or Bant tournament decks... ...it sucks out 3-1 usually...

If you use the sample hand option on here at all you have to USE it like when I use it for sample hands I do about 60+ hands (takes about 20 minutes) you just Ignore 5+ land hands and 0 landers and count the rest as actual hands
But ya either use it alot or not at all

True, Trollking... ...though I don't like virtual testing at all... ...when I don't yet have the cards, I cink them & try it out in many situations...

I like this deck a lot. If I could say something, is that it seems like all of your spot removal is in the sideboard, making them useless in game one. I would try to have a little more spot removal in the mainboard, like some abrupt decay or an oblivion ring.

I was also concerned about that, when I made the deck, but when I tested it, it appeared, it's not needed...

...when I need more removal, I add before game 2, but I usually can win without it... ...Sorin's ultimate could easily get activated, I can destroy with Wraska, I have 3 Sever wich could be flashed back & an Angel of Serenity, that exiles 3 creatures... ...I also have a Vault of the Archangel for Deathtouch...

...usually it's enough to block off the board with Armada Wurm &/or gain enough life with Thragtusk/Restoration Angel of Serenity to endure offence until I''ve got things crackin'...

The 4 draw spell as Elvish Visionary also helpes me to get whatever I want & it could be flicked by Restoration Angel... ...I can also draw lots of cards with Garruk... ...with this, the 3 Sever, 2 Vraska & 1 Serenity is enough... ...& Sorin is really not hard to ultimate, when it's needed, 'cuz I can protect it...

...this deck is Midrange, so expensive removal, like Sever, Serenity & Vraska could be cast easily....... :)

Thanks for your comment!..

i was going to suggest more removal spells, but after reading the convos u don't need/want em

other than that - looks good

...toke your advice... ...I'm testing the new form of the deck...

...it's a thing, that I don't need many removal, but the deck might would be better with it... ...that Elvish Visionary were just perfect in there & also gave Sorin much perpouse... ...but we'll see how this turnes out...

0

Tried it... ...1st I toke out 1 Sorin, 4 Visionary & 1 Selesnya Keyrune... ...put in 3 Oblivion Ring, a 2nd Serenity & 2 Golgari Keyrune... ...the flow of the deck weakened & I started to see, that I'm getting less value with Restoration, as I eleminated Visionary... ...so I toke out 1 Resto' & put in a 4th Oblivion Ring... ...the deck were effective, but still no good flow... ...so I kept only 2 Ring, toke out the 2 Golgari Keyrune & reinstated 3 Visionary & the 4th Restoration Angel... ...it was still worse, than my starting version...

...so now I'm almost running my original set... ...only I toke out 1 Visionary & put in a 2nd Angel of Serenity... ...now I have more than enough removal, 'cuz the 4 to 7 mana removal stuff in this deck is like having 2-4.5 mana removals, 'cuz the ramp here is pretty strong...

...in this deck, my creatures block off the field & most of tham stayes alive for long, because I play Wurm, Tusk, Serenity & also Restoration Angel for saving Tusk, Wurm & Visionary....... :)

Thanks for your suggestion!.. ...now I have made very little changes according to the original version, but it has gotten better!.. :)

...I have left with an empty space in the sideboards & I chose a 3rd Primal Hunter... ...I'll use it in case I put in the extra Wurm &/or Serenity... :)

...dayes after, I've finalized it... ...changed the 3 remaning Visionary for 3 Oblivion RIng & filled the gaps in the sideboard that the missing Ring caused... :)

poet I dont get it why have you marked this as unloved because it kicks ass. this is probably the best way to make a standard junk deck. but I think you should play 2 sorin not 3 and another oblivion ring or armada wurm. the third angel in the sideboard is not needed I think but you alwayes had a better insite than me so I guess you can explain why its there :) good work! I will be keeping an eye on your decks :)

Thanks for your opinion, Seth! :)

...I use a 3rd Agel in the sideboard, because it's awesome against aggro decks & also midrange, so is the Wurm, but against midrange, the Angel is better... ...having 3 of it garentees, that I'll draw at least 1... ...2 in a long ass game usually... ...it just changes the game as it is (most of the time)...

What is your typical Metagame? Is there a lot of variety to the decks that you face?

0

I alwayes make sure to make the best decidions each time... :)

My metagame depends on several points... ...do my opponent run wipes?.. ...does he/she play counters?.. ...etc...

...about what I play early, mid & late-game is at "how to play"...

...the only thing is, I rarely cast Restoration Angel with no Tusk, or Wurm on board...

ive seen lots of your decks and most of them are really good. i have a suggestion that may seem weird. consider replacing one of the selesnya keyrunes for 1 golgari keyrune. the reason this suggestion may be a bit weird is because im not suggesting this for the extra black source. i suggest the keyrune mainly as a good 1 of deathtouch mana dork to surprise the opponent with. What do you think? Nice job by the way.

I've had the same idea (1 or 2 Golgari Keyrune(s) )....... :)

Not bad though I don't see the need for black here. I see the cards using black but it seems only like it's going to screw with your mana base besides Sorin is okay, Vraska sucks, sever the bloodline can be replaced.

Selesyna Charm is good enough in place of bloodline I think. Throw in some Centaur Healer's or Loxodon smiter's in place of the Sorin's and Vraska's, maybe even a rancor or 2 or 3 up to you. Sundering Growth can replace the Golgari Charm and Abrupt Decay here.

0

Not exactly how you are saying it... :)

This deck is way better, than any Selesnya... ...the Charm is only good for one big creature & Sever is good for any creature, sometimes more, than only one & it's killer against tokens... ...also flashback.......

Vraska actually doesn't suck... ...but she is the most "when to play" card in standard now... ...very few players know how to play it & none of the biggest names in mtg today...

...Selesnya decks aren't having enough removal, no matter the massive lifegain... ...dealing with many planeswalkers is a very difficult task... ...you can wipe out all creatures, but the walkers all stay & generate more creatures...

...this deck has been beating every type of top quality decks, though my Bant & America decks are better...

Golgari Charm is good for many things, not just for enchantment removal... ...so Sundering Growth is way worse, though it's nice making wurm & beast tokens, also sorin vampires... ...but the Charm is still better for it's regenration ability.......

...the Healers are good, but not worth running in tournament decks...

I see your point on sever, primarily just for token issues, but even still token decks can't generate "that many" tokens to be fair. You should be okay with the amount of strong creatures you have in the deck already.

I don't think people your playing against know how to play against Vraska is the true issue. Her first ability does nothing to the board state. Her -3 is decent, it's a vindicate but still 5 mana for "maybe" (a big maybe) 2 vindicate's. And her ultimate does nothing really, it generates a few 1/1's what will just die, if they can actually win you the game the other person was going to lose anyways. It's too mana heavy for nearly no change in board state. There is a reason no one players here and pro-players avoid her even while playing her color's.

I only ultimate Vraska, when I have much creatures on board, so the opponent must block them & let the bigger creatures in... ...if I can't use the 2nd "Vindicate" ability of Vraska, than my opponent had to "waste" damage, or spell on her, instead of me, so I'm still ahead... ...Vraska is amazing, when I have another planeswalker on board & in every 3rd game, I have 2 or 3 walkers on board at the same time... ...she can wipe out threats, so the opponent is having quite a problem dealing with multiple walkers... ...no wipes will work... ...nothing.......

...token decks could easily have many tokens at the same time, expecially junk tokens... ...a fleshed back Lingering souls & an Intangible Virtue, or Sorin & there are already 8 damage & it's only the beggining... ...so Sever is very useful & it can also deal with reanimated Avacyn, or may be Lothleth Troll (anything that could regenerate, or is indestructible)... ...players also like to have two Huntmasters at the same time, than cast no spell to flip them both, so Sever is a horror for them....... :)

hey thanks for checking out my deck. i get what ur saying because i have got the same response from many people. the funny thing is that theres only one person at the card shop that can beat my deck at the moment. ive placed 2nd for 3 weeks straight. please dont think i play at a pushover shop. there are 3 people that play there that have got top 8 in grand prix tournaments. one of them has a gp title.

hey poetmaster. i was wondering if u are going to make any changes with the new gatecrash cards. also i already made the changes to that r/g deck u looked at. im sure if u decide to look at it your opinion will be way different.

What would you do against super aggressive decks. While you do have thrags and such I notice your lack of action until then. You have no hierarchs main decks and no centaur healers sided in or 1/4 that gains double life sided in. While I understand your goal would get to thrag to survive it looks to me like a RDW might crush you before you get to stabilize. Just maybe a thought about it. It's a good list but post gatecrash, skullcrack is a real card and all the new haste battalion creature are going to make aggro alot more consistent.

This is a midrange deck, so I can cast my 5 mana things, like 3-4 mana stuff, because the ramp in the deck is smood...

Against aggro, the Wurm & Serenity are perfect and so is Sever...

This deck was built way before Gatecrash was revaled & I'm going to build my new decks now... ...I already have two new decks, but haven't made my tournament decl yet.......

What I found out whilst playing this deck:
1. You rarely can do anything until you have 4-5 mana on the field, which can be achieved in best case scenario by the 3rd turn, if you can cast a keyrune and a pilrgrim, but it usually takes about 4 - 5 turns, and without defense, red decks can easily set up a good offense by that, and reduce you to 10 life or less. This is a known issue though.
2. This can be troublesome against creatures with flying. Even though you want to play Sorin early in game, you probably decide on not doing so because of the high chances of destruction.
3. It's a really strong deck, and if you manage to survive for 5 turns, you'll usually win (unless you're fighting the exact opposite of this deck, or having the shuffler)

Great deck, overall!

True... ...against well constructed aggro decks, my total life usually decrease to 9-12 once, but than even 1 Thragtusk is enough most of the time... ...& I usually have a Restoration Angel to flick it, or another Thrag...

...I didn't experience the same problem with this deck/sometimes I chose not to cast Sorin early, but I could defend myselfe with Ring &/or Sever & I also can sideboard Abrupt Decay & 1 more Ring...

I gain too many lives in this deck & the offense triggeres suddenly as I create a fast overrun over my opponent... ...the Wurm is perfect against those fast aggro decks, because it blocks the board off totally & the opponent has no wipes in aggro(that would be the only way to get rid of Armada totally)...

I wonder if the deck would be better with 3x Lingering souls, no Vraska & only 3x Restoration Angel...

...now I'm building new decks for standard since Gatecrash came out... ...Skullcrack really blocks Thrag off...
