and by LaZbOy92's suggestion of indomitable archangel.

Standard legal deck, focusing on Indomitable Archangel to protect Precursor Golem and Splicers.

Phyrexian Metamorph copying the angel gives itself shroud, which makes me happy. Cackling Counterpart replaces the Angel in response to removal, and naturally either of them can provide another golem trio or buff your army up even more with splicer copies.

I have Abuna Acolyte and Apostle's Blessing in the sideboard if I'm up against a really removal-heavy deck, but generally the goal is to drop a turn 4 archangel and a turn 5 precursor, so I'm not trying to cast a ton of spells to protect the golems or cantrip with them. If my opponent does manage to boardwipe my golems, hopefully I can get back into the game with Moorland Haunt and Venser (who can trigger a splicer every turn).

Deck discussion for Indomitable Precursor

Main problem with this is that shroud is not hexproof. This prevents Venser and Cackling Counterpart from targeting artifacts you control. This is not a huge problem, because they can be used to blink/copy angels and splicers, but you do lose a bit.
Moorland Haunt here just slows you down. I would focus on a card-draw spell instead. If you have extra mana late game, why not just make sure you can use it on something better than a 1/1?
Otherwise, ok. Your mana curve is a little bit meh, but you can work that out.
+1 from me.

Thanks! I'm still pretty happy with the angel, since I have 8 splicers to copy/blink and Venser's -1 is quite good.

You're probably right about Moorland haunt, though I think I'll just replace three of them with basics rather than go to fewer lands. I agree my mana curve isn't great, but just to clarify, the site reads each phyrexian mana as 2 symbols, so my real curve is 4/4/15/8/6 if you count metamorphs as 3 drops.

What card draw would you suggest, and what would you take out? It would be fun to choose something that Venser can repeat, but Ichor Wellspring doesn't seem worth it and I want something cheaper than Solemn Simulacrum (though he is a golem, amusingly).

Huh. That's tough. Think Twice, and maybe SB Visions of Beyond. x3, take out x1 Mimic Vat, x1 Metamorph, x1 Moorland Haunt. If you want to keep the vat or the Haunt, lose islands or 1x precursor instead.
Have Ghost Quarter at least in the sideboard. for 1x Blessing, 1x Venser.

Thanks again. I liked the mimic vat idea (permanent free golems every turn) but come to think of it, it's really easy to play around just by killing all my many tokens first.

sideboard: -3 apostle's blessing -1 abuna acolyte +4 geist of saint traft. I think switching out precursor golem for geist against control is a much better sideboard plan versus control than trying to protect my vulnerable golem army.

Hm... and then -2 abuna acolyte +2 day of judgement versus super aggro decks. The acolyte just doesn't seem good, and I don't know what else to put in that sideboard slot.

I suggest lose the Metamorphs for Phantasmal Images. 2 cost that will have shroud anyway means more monsters and lower threat cost. Cackling counterpart is not a bad idea, but as the above post mentioned, shroud plays differently. I suggest removing it for manaliths or something that can boost your play turns by one. Then drop a ponder and an ob ring for 2 shape anew. That way you can pull a golem straight to the field (or a Metamorph if you choose to keep it in). Also, going slightly above 60 wont burn you too much. I suggest finding some protection for your non-artifacts. Apostle's is always a good bet. Personally, I think Venser is only decent at support in agro decks. Keep him if you want, but I suggest adaptive automaton instead. Better aggro.
