Deck Description

Just an attempt at a jund standard deck all comments appreciated. I'm trying to make this deck a little cheaper by taking out some of those fetch lands once those are removed it will be about 45 for mid price ITS NOT HARD TO HIT THE LIKE BUTTON

How to Play

This is a midrange, aggro deck that mainly focuses on building counters on creatures with instants, sorcery, and enchantments, while have creatures with an active that builds even more counters. This deck builds counters using cards like hardened Scales, grave strength, cached defences , wildcall , and Dragonscale boon. The deck is based around Avatar of the resolute because he can get real big quick if you have creatures with counters on it and then using your instants to build him up even more. Each card has a special active that will help you change the pace of the game in your favor. If you need land, you can use Aniok Guide to fetch a land or just put a counter on it. Use Scab Clans renown to make the opponet deal damage to himself. If you play Managorger Hydra reserve it untill he becomes big from any card being played. If you find yourself heavy on land early use it too boost Hooded Hydra. Use Malakir Cullblade mainly as a chump block or some early damage. And finally use Hooded Assassin to have some removal or, again, just another counter. This is my favorite deck thus far. i hope yall feel the same. Have fun -ProGhost-

Deck discussion for Jund Counter Deck

Looking pretty good!
The only addition I would do is to add some basic lands (3-4). The cards you should remove to make room are:
-1x Dragonscale Boon
-1x Lightning Berserker
-1x Grave Strength

Cut one Temple of Malice to add one more Bloodfell Caves. Cut one Llanowar Wastes to add one Jungle Hollow.
Voila! You've just saved 5 bucks.

Congratulations! This deck deserves to be on the hot page. I like the versatility you've managed to squeeze in, it looks really fun!

I tip my hat to you for getting a comment from Northy. Hey Northy!

If you ever decide to break into formats other than standard, check out some of my decks.

Back to the point, love this deck. Definite +1!

Haha really? It may have changed a little since you got it. The way it sits now is how I play it. It's always great to hear someone actually plays a deck I put a deck together.

Recently I put together a standard Atarka deck, it's pretty good, not really budget, but it's fun and usually plays pretty well.

Personally, I like the new Managorger Hydra over Hooded Hydra because it gains +1/+1 for any spells played by on your turn or your opponents and it can become a massive headache in no time.

Just my opinion, but I do like what you've put together.

Seems like an awesome deck :)

A few comments though:

How good is Lightning Berserker working for ya? Is he supposed to burn your left over red mana?!
Id rather run Goblin Glory Chase for Renown / Frenzied Goblin for battle tricks / the over-hyped!? Monastery Swiftspear.
Hardened Scales could also be your 1drop in such a heavily +1/+1 counter based deck.

Bow of Nylea has been working for me a your renown-able creatures wont get blocked that much and it can contribute +1/+1 counters.

Some battle trick instants could also be nice. {R} and {G} both have a good variety of them, and again your opponent will never be sure when he is save to block as long as you have 1 unused mana....

Lightning was to just use that extra mana for some excess dmg. I see your point about the glory chase so i switched it out, as well as the frenzied goblin. Im tired on swiftspear i have 3 playsets in 3 of my other decks im getting tired of it hahah. Yea i was looking at nylea when i was building it kinda just makes it to mana hungry ya feel. Could SB it tho

This shell is pretty good but I do have a couple of things to point out and critique though.

I would cut Malakir cullblade. For what it's worth, it's a one on turn two which has to have something die on your side to be relevant. This is just wasted value for a slot which could be running better options. I would run rattlelclaw out of hierarch, just for safer fixing and not having to take risk throwing him in combat to get his renown trigger. And for akroan, I would exchange them for alesha, WSAD. Better body, First strike, same cmc and she has a trigger which is VERY RELEVANT to your deck style .

Not sure if I like the Abbot of Keral Keep or the Rattleclaw Mystic.
Malakir Cullblade was preventing your opponent from chump blocking. I'd keep him at least in the side deck.
But Alesha is a very nice card :)

Btw what do you think of Fanatic of Xenagos?
Is Valeron Wardens to slow for a draw engine?

For this deck and the play style Valeron Wardens is a little slow for what it is for a 3cmc the draw isent really for this deck because its not a real low mana cost deck (like 1 or 2 Cmc) But i change it daily as i think about it

Well done, I really like this deck. Great Job. I was wondering what do you plan on trading "Fanatic of Xenagos" out with when Theros block drops out of Standard.

@Germynator i think it came together real nice in the end but some of it is about to go out and i will change it. I came in second with it because it was a counter burn deck and cleared my board before i could ramp anything high enough, i even build the counter burn for him hahaha

I would of sparked the counters with a couple doubling seasons in here, and possible coat of arms.

I'm thinking about building this as my first Standard deck to use on FNM.

Could anyone tell me how it performs?

I can tell you!! It is great deck, i know that sounds kinda biased since i built it, but I have played it on MTG online and i built it in person. I have updated it so it stays in standard for a little bit longer, and i will continue to update it as the time passes. Let me know if you have any other questions

I'm glad to hear!

Do you have any ideas as of the moment for the sideboard, considering that some of its cards are illegal? Also, what do you think of 4x Hardened Scales and no Corpseweft?

0
Posted 10 October 2015 at 03:40

Its an alright Idea Its good if you can stack up hardened scales but the deck does not revolve around hardened scales that's why there are only 2 and corpsweft is a utility card so for late game. Also the duo of grave strength and then corpsweft is a must do combo
