Deck Description

A sweet spot between midrange and control. It's got early game, it's got late game and it's got a good amount of interactions and makes use of the powerful "dragon-fueled" cards from DTK.

How to Play

This deck seeks to prey upon the recent influx of early aggressive strategies running around like Mono-Red, Abzan Hangarback and GW aggro. Turn one is ideally a tapland, turn two is Jace or Orator of Ojutai (which does WORK against creature based aggro). Turn three-five we play the waiting game, holding up our interactive 2 mana spells until we can drop a dragonlord or start playing two spells a turn. Against Midrange or Devotion strategies you sometimes just jam mantis rider turn 3 and thunderbreak regent turn 4 but usually we want to be the control player in the early game. Once we can stick a dragon or start playing multiple spells a turn we start applying the pressure. All of our actual threats fly so once we get our beat on our opponent should start feeling the heat fast. We run 9 Dragons so odds are our Dragon-Fueled cards will always be online which is good because we're running 11 of them. We deal with our opponents threats as they come. Draconic Roar is one of the best removal spells in standard. You think Searing Blood is good? Our spell is easier on the mana, does 1 more damage to creatures and doesn't need the creature to die to deal our opponents damage(in a pinch, we still want it to die). Working very nicely in tandem with it is 4 copies of Valorous Stance which can straight up destroy any creature our Draconic Roars can't. Rounding it out is Silumgar's Scorn which is our response to anything our removal can't hit or that we just don't want to deal with. Ojutai's Command is even better now that we've got two targets for it to bring back in the form of Jace and the Orator. More often than not we bring back Jace but sometimes it's nice to get a 0/4 and draw two or get an 0/4, gain 4 and draw a card. The card has options is what I'm saying. And speaking of options, Jeskai Charm makes a welcome return here. Originally I through it in as my final three cards but the more I play with it the more I love it. Nice Hangarback walker, you've really built it up. Now put it on top of your deck. Languish huh? That would hit all of my creatures, but I've decided I like my Dragons and I'll keep the Bird Monk too. And for the next two games it's super fun to ask, what's your life total at? Cause if they say anything below 5, gg.

The sideboard is in it's early stages. Anger of the Gods and Arc lightning are there for the Gr Devotion/ramp builds, which so far is our worst matchup. We have to take care of their mana dorks and early devotion so we can get to our late game before they get to theirs. We sometimes bring in Arc Lightning against creature based aggro too but our matchup is pretty favorable against them. Swift Reckoning and End Hostilities also come in against Gr ramp and most midrange builds too. Sometimes you just need something to "simplify" the board state. Negate comes in against burn and control as well as any generally spell heavy deck. Hallowed Moonlight and Reality Shift come in against Abzan Hangarback or really any deck with the following cards: Hangarback Walker, Den Protector, Deathmist Raptor.

And that's it, it's pretty straightforward. I tried a similar build before origins but it just didn't mesh as well as this one does. There isn't really anything that new that was added to the maindeck but Jace just makes other cards in the deck better. I didn't even consider Orater in DTK until I had a 2 drop that made me want to include Ojutai's Command. It's been really fun to play and I enjoy working on it. Leave your thoughts and suggestions below I'd be happy to hear them.
