Creatures (3)

Enchantments (2)

Deck Description

If you like making your opponent FLIP TABLES, you may want to try out my deck :)

This deck is all about LOCKING down the opponents and detaining them with multiple enchantments.

PLEASE RATE and I will rate one of yours. Thanks! :D

UPDATE (10/10/13): Finally completed the deck IRL!
UPDATE (10/11/13): Added sideboard: Counters, Azors Elocutors against other lockdown decks, Lightmine against weenies, Path to Exile as needed, Totally Lost so you can look at Flblthp while waiting for opponent to decide on moves :D

How to Play

STAGE 1 (Turns 1-2):
STALL and ANNOY with Gideon, Fog Bank, or use Azorius Charm to flop their creatures back on top of their libraries.

STAGE 2 (Turns 3-5):
Continue keeping them on a leash with the earlier cards.
Add a Journey to Nowhere or Oblivion Ring to take out any more threats such as stompies or planeswalkers. This is where you start playing LOCKDOWN:
> Ghostly Prison --> Minimizes attackers like crazy for only 3 mana
OR
> Windborn Muse --> Same as prison. More lockdown
OR
> Sphere of Safety --> Absolutely nuts lategame. Usually forces opponent to tap out all mana just to attack with one or two creatures (which you then enchant away or tap with Gideon) :D

STAGE 3: (Turn 6 onward):
If the game is still going on, you will have Ghostly Prisons, Muses, Spheres of Safety etc all over the field. If you can get more than one SOS, the opponent will pretty much do nothing.

Trade Routes will prevent and dead land draws.
Find a sphinx and beat opponent into submission.

no propaganda.. its the same thing as ghostly prison but blue... also norns annex and fog?

Since it's blue/white, Holy Day may fit better than Fog.

Holy day is decent. It's a bit of a conditional card and I feel that Azorius Charm is more effective since it results, in damage prevention, a bounce, AND a repeat draw of the same card for your opponent.

Nice deck, cheap too! I'm not a very seasoned magic player, but for a white/blue deck I'd play Faith's Fetters too, Porphyry Nodes looks nice as well. Although not cheap, Supreme Verdict, Detention Sphere would fit well imo too. Planar Cleansing is cheap and does its job. 5/5 for the unbeatable price, 4.5/5 overall because of a certain number of counters against it. Pls rate my sliver deck http://www.mtgvault.com/antalius11/decks/sliver-steroid-attack/

@antalius11 Thank you for the constructive input. If you wish to deviate from budget to make the deck a bit more competitive you should indeed swap out O-Rings for Detention Spheres. Porphyry Nodes looks badass too. I'll definitely check it out.

Hello,
You can try Sejiri Refuge instead of Azorius Guildgate just for a little extra life:)
Another thing you could consider is Render Silent, it seems like it is great for this deck.
Good job overall!
Can you help me with this deck? Thanks

Cenn's Enlistment, Oona's Grace or Spitting Image instead of trade routes.

you also need a win condition. i recommend cenn's enlistment, gideon's avanger or jace erasure. Oona, Queen of the Fae
is also a good way to mill them out AND get chump blockers

0

I don't have enough tappers to abuse Gideon's avenger. Sphinx is my go-to win :)

Oona does seem viable though. I just wish she weren't 8 CMC...

Aetherling is better finisher then sphinx of jwar isle. Edicts and wraths kill sphinx nothing kills aetherling.
Trade routes should probably become some kind of draw spell serum visions or divination both work.
Gideon's law keeper should also be a draw spell, these will let you set up a lock quicker. Also tapping a creature is relatively ineffective when they have to pay to attack, because they just attack with something else. Fog bank is effective because tey already pay to attack.
The changes should all be fairly budget none of the cards suggested are over 4 dollars
Aetherling being most important and really almost any draw spell working.

Gideon has saved my butt a number of times but I see your point.

I'll try your revisions. This deck welcomes more draw. Thanks! :D

0

Gideon works because they have to tap out just to declare attackers (usually just one or two).
THEN you tap the biggest threat or block with Foggy, so you take little to no damage.

How do you feel about fiend hunters and banisher priests? You could use those instead of Sphinx of Jwar Isle, they will cost less and still can put more lockdown, now they will be sacrificing shroad and flighting 5/5 but easier to get out and lock everything down.

0
Posted 06 October 2013 at 03:16

They're excellent cards. I just don't like how much damage you'd take the next turn if you drop them and they die immediately to removal.

They are cheaper though so will try. Thanks for the suggestion!

0
Posted 06 October 2013 at 04:38

But the flying shroud lets you keep swinging at them without worry. If you go against a creature heavy deck you won't be able to do much damage with a banisher priest for fear of him dying and bringing one of their creatures back.

0
Posted 06 October 2013 at 23:41

Update: Playtested fiend hunters. While effective against some decks, they die too often for me to rely on. Jdfryer is right. Sphinx is simply fits this deck better.

I cannot validate replacing Sphinx of Jwar isle with Fiend Hunters. Thank you for the input though!

Norn's Annex, this way they are forced into White mana or life as apposed to just mana.

I know you want to keep this budget, however Hallowed Fountains, even Glacial Fortresses or Seachrome Coasts are better than a guildgate, and Path to Exile is a real thing to even if it is a little pricey.

Overall I like this build, props.

PS maybe consider Silence and Telepathy

0

Glacial fortress is like 2 bucks adarkar wastes are also under 2 they just make your deck more consistent. While that adds up 10 dollars in land goes a long way.
Hallowed fountains are harder to justify as they cost as much as his deck.

0
Posted 06 October 2013 at 08:28

Thank you both. Path is definitely a viable option :)
The dual lands will definitely help if you have a bit of spare cash.

0
Posted 06 October 2013 at 12:08

Hallowed Fountains are about 15.00 a piece so they indeed are a little pricier but they have the advantage of being shocks, so if they are you opening hand them followed by a glacial fortress leaves you pretty much mana fixed. Adakar Wastes is useless because while 2 life up front for an untapped land is ok, the constant life loss for mana fixing is not, especially if aggro gets the jump on you

0
Posted 06 October 2013 at 15:27

If your going to run Gideon's Lawkeepers you should also run Palliation Accord to really prevent some damage. Also another nifty combo is Telepathy and Lurking Informant, these two will allow you to have a control on your opponents draw and also know when they can play their big threats.

0

Hmmm good idea but I don't think eight cards with 5 CMC would do the deck any favors.

Telepathy however... I'm thinking on how to use that best. Thanks!

Freed from the Real? Could put it on their creatures or Gideon's Lawkeeper to tap multiple creatures of theirs for 2 mana. I'd say add counterspells for sideboard to protect your more needed enchantments.

0

You certainly need some counterspells to hold back their attempt to destroy your enchantments (at least in your sideboard). If you don't particularly care to keep it legal in modern, I like to use Psychic Venom, Wall of Tears and Backfire in my control(-burn) deck as well, super annoying for the opponent. Why don't you take a look at it too, and let me know what you think? I am trying to update that one with modern cards to make it stronger.

Interesting deck, even better that its on such a budget. I've played myself against it a couple times and the only wins I get are whenever I basically run it out of cards. My deck dabbles in Pacifism/bonds of faith/oblivion ring so once I remove the creatures or other high value targets it just becomes a matter when this deck runs out of cards.

Hey bro I am going to give you a challenge, since you like them. Ok I want you to attempt to make a budget werewolf deck. Werewolf decks are being taken out of standard and in the mtg universe. If you look on my page at the Dawns Break deck you can see I have tried to make one but I always feel like it wont do good in a match. Also i made that deck when I was first learning how to create decks s its a bit loaded down with cards so please excuse that. Werewolf cards are so awesome but often people look past them and think the vampire decks are superior. Well I want you and I to prove them wrong. Sure there are more cards for the vamps but who needs quantity when we have quality. So yeah I will probably make a budget werewolf deck later this week and I will compare it to yours if you decide to take on this challenge. Thanks bud for your time.

P.s. I am subscribing to you here :D
anyways BYE!!!!!!!!! TTYL

@Skyboy289:
Hmm interesting. As a matter of fact I do think that vampires are currently more broken than werewolves. They just tend to be unreliable or a tad bit slow. However I thank you for the suggestion. It seems like a fun idea!
I'll check if there are any werewolves I like during the week and perhaps I'll be able to churn something out.
PS: Werewolves only? What about wolves as well? :)

lol wolves too. I just find them to be an amazing premise to go by.Vampires are just bs at times in my opinion and I am just tired of them being thrown in my face. I am hoping that you will be able to prove to me that werewolves can overcome stupid vampires.I have tried and failed in his subject many times, but I think you can probably do a better job at making a werewolf deck then I can.Once again thank you for your time and I cant wait to see what you come up with if you take on this challenge.

Both helps with the control and kills people quickly.

0

I'd also suggest adding a few more lands, I think that 22 Lands is slightly too few.
If you went to 24 I think you'd have just a touch more land consistency, and you do have Trade Routes to deal with dead land draws.
