Deck Description

* * * * *MODERN CHALLENGE ALERT* * * * *

Being a gimmicky budget player and Yoked Ox collector, I have been trying for days to create a budget Modern deck that makes use of YOKED OX. And can compete at the kitchen table.

So I'm throwing this one out there. Modern. Under $40. Playable Yoked Ox deck.

Bonus points if Yoked Ox is a focal point of the deck, or is the win condition!
(I once tried hooking it up with a Loxodon Warhammer build. Decent, but too fragile). Let's see who can make anything out of this one.

I can't wait to see what you guys can come up with!

SUGGESTED CARDS WILL BE PLACED IN THE SIDEBOARD. AT THE END OF THE WEEK I WILL TEST EACH OF THEM YEEHAW :D

How to Play

UPDATE (Nov 16): Woke up today to find almost a dozen answers to the challenge. That was fast! I really like some of the things you guys came up with. Testing some of them today. Keep it coming!

Deck discussion for THE YOKED OX CHALLENGE

You could make it a Junk deck and Doran, the Siege Tower to make Yoked Ox a 4/4

Doran would've been perfect if only he weren't a 3-splash :(
Investing in dual lands for 3-colors would probably cost a bit much.

thats exactly what i was thinking, Ombach.

you could run Doran and use gates

and hold the gates + Doran, Ox would be huge

u could focus on high toughness creatures and equipement, and throw down some sweeped dmg, killing tokens and most winnies decks (not sure wuts prevalent in ur playgroup?)

That's actually a pretty good idea o_0
What tough creatures and equipment and sweep would you suggest?
Creature kill in quite prevalent and can be a problem.

huzzah! with the yoked ox, and high toughness cheap creatures galore!

0

but what's your win con. theres hardly any attacking. maybe include Darksteel Reactor or Lich's Mirror for staling.

0

the feed the pack and gutter grime aren't enough?

0
Posted 15 November 2013 at 21:07

they can get out lots of tokens, but the wolfs are only 2/2's. One Shock can kill that. And Gutter Grime could be useful, but if it's out your opponents will either get it out ASAP or prevent your creatures from dying. (which may sound good but your creatures have 0 power.)

0
Posted 15 November 2013 at 21:12

true enough, but the general idea is that with each creature 'feed the pack' eats, you get 4+ wolves (i don't mind them using a shock on that), and it feeds the grime. stalling long enough to get both shouldn't even be all too difficult unless you're facing $200+ decks or something designed to deal with something like this.

the reactor and mirror are good... but they don't fit the flavor i was looking for.. (namely using the yoked ox as something more than a random 1 drop blocker)

0

Hmm I tried it. It is a little sluggy but your defenders often make it in time. Gutter grime is decent though. As is Tree of Redemption. Sapling of Colfenor definitely caught my eye. Bow of Nylea is a little strange since I don't attack often in the deck. Perhaps Spear of Heliod?

Good job though! Adding some of your cards to list!

Themed around the concept of growth/fields/harvest/etc. The site didn't have Field of Souls in Sorin vs. Tibalt, so the site does not recognize this deck as Modern, but it still fits in reality. Enjoy!

Defender deck utilizing Ox as its only line of offense. Considering adding in the Pillarfield Ox as well, but would have to remove a precious Defender to do so.

What color(s) will the completed deck be?

0
Posted 16 November 2013 at 16:34

I'm thinking it will most probably be monowhite so that we won't have to slow the deck down by using gates, or investing in expensive lands. But people have suggested things like Rancor and Unflinching Courage, so the deck may run green as well.

Use whatever you'd like. I'm open to anything :)

I see you put in Adaptive Automation and Taurean Mauler. I think you should put in oxes and changeling creatures with Door of Destinies and other low-money-costing cards that can boost the deck's creatures based on something they each have in common. I would say Coat of Arms if it weren't so expensive. :/
