Deck Description

In my quest to make fun and original decks, I have decided to try my hand at a RW control. The primary goals are fun and originality, however advice is still appreciated. Losing every time is no fun. Cost is no issue, however I'll not add any power nine or similar broken cards. The aim of the deck is to get some solid early aggression in and win mid game before they can get a tempo going. Going to work on sideboard later, however it is only going to be played against my friends. None of them run a hard mono-blue control, and they are mostly decently budgeted decks by decent deck builders. Some burn, some life gain, some allies, etc.
Again advice is appreciated, and thanks for viewing. If there's a card you think should be added, also saying what you would take out to replace it with and why is especially thanked. For example, much as I would be happy to put in Ajani Vengeant I really don't know what to take out to keep it to a 60 card deck.
Update: I've spent some time playing, editing, and doing other work on it now. It's generally been quite strong at messing people up and keeping the field clear, but I have rarely had a method of finishing strong. Almost every won game was thanks to Gisela (thanks for suggesting that, I wasn't sure about it at first but now I consider it to be damn near essential). I've added akroma, both because she's good and because almost all my friends run white, and dragonmaster outcasts instead of luminarch ascensions, because I almost always get 6+ land however I don't always go four turns without damage by the time I get it out. Any advice from here is still appreciated.

Deck discussion for Control without blue [help appreciated]

I'm considering replacing the ascensions with something, and reducing the number of intimidation bolts to accompany this. Any advice on what, if anything, I should consider in this task?

I would run ajani vengent
I would take out dominous of fealty as itll cost you 5 red
I like thunderous wrath but thats a personal preference
Glory of warfare is a really cool for a red white deck if you ever run more creatures
goblin arsonist is the coolest non-vexing devil one drop

Thats some things off the top of my head but if i say too much you'll end up with a red deck splashed with white

As far as what to take out Dominus of fealty
Luminarch Ascension

Here's what i would do. I would look at Fiend Hunter and ask myself why i need him when I have 4 O Ring and 4 Journey to Nowhere? Then i would look at Lightning Mauler. His soulbond ability is fantastic! Especially with a creature like Vexing Devil. I have to agree that Dominus of Fealty may not be the best choice, given the 5 red casting cost. I think Zealous Conscripts might be a better 5 drop instead. Sure you only get the "gain control" ability when they come into play, but how many times do you really need to do that before it's game over? I also think Luminarch Ascension is a little weak in this deck. Given the approach of the deck my guess is you draw a lot of hate. How often are you able to go 4 of your opponents turns without taking at least a point of damage? My replacement suggestion may seem a little out of left field, but just hear me out... Gisela, Blade of Goldnight! With her 7 CMC, and legendary status, 2 is the perfect number to run. Now cosider casting her with an upaired Lightning Mauler in play... enough said. Lastly, I would consider Act of Aggression over Act of Treason. It costs 2 more, but it's Phyrexian red, and more importantly, it's an Instant....as opposed to Treason which is a Sorcery. In my opinion this difference could be a game changer.
Hope my ideas have given you some food for thought. If you have some time take a look at my current standard deck and let me know what you think.

I've found in practice games that, at least against decks of the quality my opponents are playing, I can and often do go four turns without taking damage. Between removal, intimidation bolt, theft, etc. I can buy myself four turns with some regularity. I have also decided to take out the maulers, they simply weren't jiving with my playstyle especially well. I have found that the problem with my deck is consistantly that i do a bunch to mess them up, and I mess them up quite well, but eventually I lose card advantage and they win. The ascensions give me an extremely strong exit from my control, so that when I run out of ways to stop them from attacking I can now overrun them with 4/4 fliers. Thanks for the advice, however, and I'm enjoying the other changes made because of it. The acts of agression are especially nice.

When i started playing with Luminarch Ascension, initially I was misplaying the "add a counter" rule. Life gain doesn't counter loss of life in a turn. If you take 3 damage, but gain 3 life and you technically didn't lose life at the end of the turn, any one point of damage will stop the counter from being added in the end step. Not sure if this applies, but it happened to me so I fgured I would share.
I happen to think Luminarch Ascension is a great Enchantment. I like it so much that I built a whole deck around it! Be careful if your opponents discover Ratchet Bomb!! A sacrificed Ratchet Bomb with 0 counters on it will wipe the board of any and all token creatures as they have a CMC of 0. I ran a BW token deck in standard for a while and it's something to look out for as it can be cast and sac'd right away.

Thanks, although that was something which I was aware of. Better safe than sorry. I shall watch out for ratchet bombs, although not only am I pretty sure that none of my friends have any, I doubt it would occur to them that the angels are almost necessary for me to consistently win (if I am). They would probably think that it was entirely the control elements, as I did until I started playtesting it more. I'll check out that luminarch deck however, I also enjoy that card a lot.
