Deck Description

This deck is built around the phantom creatures and this ruling:

"10/4/2004: The damage prevention ability works even if it has no counters, as long as some effect keeps its toughness above zero."

Which means if I have something like a Glorious Anthem, my Phantom creatures cannot die from damage.

WHAT I NEED:
1) You can see the basic deck structure, I have 6 global enchantments that boos the toughness, lots of Phantom creatures and some that support. Only 4 slots open. Since this is for casual multiplayer (we usually play pentagram, 2 vs 2 or 2 vs 2 vs 2, depending on how many people show up) I'll need something of the usual:
- Live gain
- Mass/Spot removal
- Recursion
- Alternate win condition
- Library manipulation
And whatever it is, it should, if possible, fit the theme. And since only 4 slots are left (I am willing to go above 60 but only slightly), these cards should be on double-duty, if possible. For example I would use Fracturing Gust (removal plus livegain) if it weren't for the fact that I cannot afford to lose my enchantments.

2) Any clever additional trick that works with Phantom critters.

3) Phantom creatures happen to be spirits. I am not a tribal guy but I sense that there are some nice cards out there that would work well. I made a brief check on soulshift but didn't find anything particularily great (also, I missed Kamigawa block, so I would have to trade for everything). But I am pretty sure that there are some nice things that would work well with spirits, especially if they solve any issues named above.

WHAT I DONT NEED:
- My mana base will change, you don't have to comment on that, unless you make suggestions that solve the issues above.

- I am set on the selection of enchantments - I just don't have more than one of each of the rare ones and don't plan on trading for more.

- Please don't transform this deck into a +1/+1-counter deck. You can make single card suggestions if they really, really fit, but I want to keep the original theme.

- Rite of Passage. Sounds good in theory, however, it just doesn't work. Since the phantom ability prevents the damage, Rite of Passage actually won't get triggered.

--------------------------

As usual: This is for casual multiplayer, we don't use sideboards. If there are cards in the sideboard, then these are cards I consider adding but haven't decided on yet and/or I haven't traded for yet.

How to Play

The plan is to build up slowly an army of Phantom creatures that are about to stay. On their own it'll take a few turns before they perish even against bigger creatures, with any of the 6 enchantments +2 of the creatures that raise their toughness they won't die at all via damage.
The Rootkin and the Ranger help out to replenish +1/+1 counters.

Since your creatures shrink in size when they get damaged I added the Simic Basilisk in order to kill off opposing blockers that are too tough otherwise.

If you need a card that boosts toughness, Leyline of Vitality would rock.
Good deck though.

Gavony Township seems like it would be a good land to throw in this deck since it lets you put +1+1 counters on all your creatures not just green.
I like the name and the use of the Phantom Creatures. Seems like a good deck to me but I'm no expert.

It is fun to play and solid but not really good. It takes too long to build up and a Wrath of God or similar will put you back to square one. It is just not explosive as most modern decks are, opponents have time to prepare or worse, to do their own thing. But, that's from my perspective and I usually play against opponents that are as experienced as I am. I can see this deck doing considerably better in an environment of typical casual decks (tribal decks of all sorts etc.). But in my group, if you play an "honest" creature deck that only has tricks regarding creature combat - well, then you'd rather have a fast and brutal one like Pump up the Wham!

It doesn't quite work with the mana base but from what I remember astral slide would reset a phantom's counters when they returned from exile. Makes me wonder if astral slide with green/white cycling lands would fit in.

Mana base isn't a problem, but the fact that I have 0 cards with cycling is ;) I could replace basic lands with cycling lands but I am unsure if that's worth the trouble. Resetting counters doesn't have high priority because the phantom ability still works without counters as long as I have another card that keeps the toughness above 0. But yes, "blinking" the phantoms would technically work well.

There are a lot of targets for Reveillark in here.

True, but the evoke cost is too high, I could have Miraculous Recovery for one mana less. And if I play it regularily ... well, then Reveillark competes with Angel of Flight Alabaster (which I own two more of that I could add). Reveillark puts the creature directly into play but only once, the Angel does it's magic every turn. Since I play exclusively multiplayer, I'd rather go with the angel.

BUT I appreciate that you think outside the box and as a matter of fact I am working on a deck with that concept, just that it is basing on Alesha instead of Reveillark. You are welcome to check it out:
http://www.mtgvault.com/puschkin/decks/smig/

It's still in working progress, though, so I haven't written any descriptions yet, mana base is missing and the creature selection is more of a list of contenders. That's why the deck isn't published and only accessable through the link above. I will add Reveillark to that deck as a backup plan when I don't draw Alesha or it gets getting killed (which I assume will happen alot ...).

I agree I wouldn't cast Reveillark for it's evoke cost, I thought of it more as another flier that could pull back your non-spirit creatures, needs be. As for Alesha, it should probably come w/ a bulls-eye sticker to attach to the sleeve. ;) I'll check it out very shortly, thank you for inviting me!

Apparently, I don't know how to do this...I can't get to it. -.- (I've never used a link to access a deck before, but I what I did was use my browser...I take it that's not correct.)
