Deck Description

This is a Rakdos Pyromancer deck with a splash of blue!
I really like Sea Gate Stormcaller and wanted to put her in a deck with Dreadhorde Arcanist. This was the result. I am constantly tinkering with other cards and trying out new strategy's, but this is the build I come back to. The mana base might also need some tuning, but it works well right now. Any additional feedback would be welcome!

How to Play

We keep up the pressure with our cheap threats.
Young Pyromancer can build up our board, Magmatic Channeler can become a 4/4 and be a great clock for our opponent while helping us find more value pieces.
We have Fatal Push and Spark Harvest as our removal, Thoughtseize as hand disruption, Opt and Village Rites as our draw spells to keep our hand filled.
Claim (to) Fame is our reanimation spell, it can hit all of our creatures. Claim the Firstborn is a neat way to stack on more damage by taking their creature, or giving one of our own haste, Dreadhorde Archanist.
One of the neat plays in this deck is Sea Gate Stormcaller into a Village Rites. We will get to copy our next spell, but because Village Rites says "as an additional cost" we won't have to sacrifice 2 creatures, and we get to draw 4 cards.

Deck discussion for Grixis Pyromancer

You might want to consider overwhelming apprentice replacing opt.
While it does not draw a card, it scryes deeper and brings more card value that way, and draw is pretty much an attempt to get value through drawing more, but being able to choose what you draw brings much more value.

The apprentice is also a decent chump blocker buying you more time against aggro.

If your opponent scryes you ruin it with the mill 2 ability, denying your opponent the value of the card they topped.

The mill 2, will also give you early information about your opponents deck, buying you time to change gears and prepare for their strategy.

Robber of the rich is also nice at destroying a scry based design, so if you face temples and omens more than you like, try out both robber and apprentice, as they will tag team you into cardquality while denying it for your opponent.

Thank you for the suggestions! I do believe after I added the Kolaghan's Command it was feeling like a Delver deck so I ended up cutting Kroxa. Robber of the Rich may be more of a include now, but I won't be as reliant on my graveyard so Overwhelmed Apprentice doesn't quite fit anymore. Lurrus might also be under performing in this regard, but playtesting more will tell.
I will be posting a Grixis Control variant that will go towards a true Kroxa deck. I will probably be adding Robber and Apprentice.

In the defence of the apprentice I've been playing with sage of Epityr ever since it was released, which is a long time to be loyal to a single card.

In the builds where I play sage I play three sage and 2 thoughtseize.
I open with thoughtseize if possible to gain information on how I want to stack the deck with the sage.
If I cant play thoughtseize I play the sage itself, stacking the deck for mana optimisation, so I can play out the hand as fast as possible.

With overwhelming apprentice, you get the information on how you want to stack the deck by observing what you mill from the opponents deck. With scry you decide the order of what you draw, and if you aren't satisfied with the answer you simply throw it all on the bottom and draw whatever is on top. This increases your odds of having a strong early game.

In my own games, I aim to block with the sage asap. First attack from my opponent and I block. Why?
Because then I get to kolaghan's command it back into my hand, allowing me to stack the deck again, and chomp blocking again. The second ability on kolaghan is usually burn a critter or discard from their hand.

The "plan" is to constantly degrade my opponents hand while improving my own.
Sage of Epityr demands that I use fetchlands sometimes to remove unneeded cards, but overwhelmed apprentice sort of does the trick without fetchlands, making it perfect as a replacement for sage of Epityr in arena.

In your deck, overwhelming apprentice can dig down to the best removal in your deck, pawing a way for dreadhorde arcanist to dig up your discard. With kolaghan's command you then repeat it all again. If you can find a card that boosts arcanist with 2 power it will be nuts.

Overwhelming apprentice is also good against combo because it sometimes remove their pieces, and you will know what to dig down towards to disrupt their combo.

In my own deck I use:
3 sage of Epityr
3 kolaghan's command
2 thoughtseize
2 negate
1 dispel
1 vendilion clique

That's all the disruption I need to fight combo and control during game 1.

In my own deck I have jorubai murklurker to gain life, if it's playable in arena I can really recommend it.
