Deck Description

Another knight deck, but with a twist! (Ab)use Reconnaissance to basically break all the rules for normal combat. Intrigued yet? Well in that case read on below.

How to Play

How to break combat:

The intended use of Reconnaissance is pretty straightforward, allowing you to dodge most combat tricks, flash played blockers, unfavorable blocking assignments. In itself a nice ability, but this card has a few tricks hidden up it's sleves.

1) After damage is dealt players recieve priority (the chance to use spells and abilities, such as Reconnaissance) before creatures are removed from combat, and thus still considered attacking. This means that you can use Reconnaissance to untap your creatures even after damage has been dealt, effectively granting them something akin to vigilance (no the "neither deals, nor recieves combat damage" part is not applied retroactively). Not bad for a 1-drop enchantment.
2) Since you can attack with all your creatures every turn with no fear of losing any, it's quite easy to have more attackers than your opponent has blockers, resulting in more unblocked creatures and therefore more damage.
3) Here's where it really gets fun. Players recieve priority after every combat damage step. This means that you have a chance to use Reconnaissance AFTER first strike damage, but BEFORE regular damage. Since all creatures in this deck (except Mother of Runes) have first strike, this means that most of the time your creatures can attack and deal damage (and gain life from lifelink) without having to take any themselves. As if that's not enough, they're untaped in the process, meaning you also have a hord of first strike creatures to block use as blockers.

Flying and other forms of evasion can be a bit of a problem, but it's often ofset by lifelink and smart use of removal.
Remember that Mother of Runes is useable for attacking as well, if you can't secure an unblocked creature through protection and if you have more attackers than blockers. Should you need protection while it's tapped and attacking, simply use Reconnaissance to remove it from combat in response to the threat, and tap it to grant protection.
It could be made more budget-friendly, by replacing Fiendslayer Paladin with Paladin En-Vec, however, I think that lifelink really adds something to the deck, so I think it's worth the extra $.

Yeah, ET would definitely be very nice, but I'm trying to keep it below 100$, which is why some of the obvious powerhouses have been left out :)

You could abuse Reconnaissance even more. Another trick is to use it on creatures that have triggered abilities when they attack. For example, Hero of Bladehold would be absolutely sick in this :) You get both the battlecry bonus and the tokens even if you have to withdraw him from combat. Likewise, if a creature has effects that trigger when it gets blocked (like flanking for example) the effect is still on the stack after you used Reconnaissance on your critter. Sidar Jabari for example becomes a powerhouse all of a sudden.

BTW, there is a typo in the deck name :)
A friend of mine had a Reconnaissance deck for multiplayer. His build was W/B, though, to incoporate Pulse Tracker, Ogre Marauder, Infectious Horror and Grave Titan. He also had Patron of the Kitsune (remember, it was a multiplayer deck). Smogsteed Rider would have been sick in his deck but I never told him ;) Treasure Thrull is one of the newer cards he should add.

Ups, how embarrasing to have a typo in the name!
Thanks for the suggestions :) Actually I had planned on putting Hero of Bladehold in the deck, but had to cut it for Mother of Runes (as there's quite a lot of creature-hate in the meta among my friends).
W/B sounds fun and nasty, maybe I'll give it a try :)
