Deck discussion for Pioneer: UW

I feel like you're missing a lot of what made this deck awesome, the Quicken+boad wipe combo. Also AEtherling is back now! C'mon man!

As much as I loved playing that deck, we have better options now.

Agree to disagree. Settle the Wreckage only hurts attacking creatures where Planar Cleansing getting an instant speed boost by Quicken literally affected everything on the board that wasn't a land and now there was a card from Amonkhet block that was cheaper than Planar Cleansing and did the exact same thing. Without AEtherling you have no way to close out the game except for Teferi. I also feel like Search for Azcanta and Narset aren't needed in the same deck.

Search and narset are key pieces in my opinion, they offer card advantage, filtering and stax elements. Without them the deck struggles to find lock pieces and win the game outright. Actually it generally struggles to win, and I agree with you on that front, namely it needs a real win condition.

Y'all showing you don't know how to play winconless control. Of which, Ivan Floch won a pro tour with. There is match strategy on when to concede, when to keep playing until your opponent concedes, and how to board into beaters depending on first game results and time left in round.

Not saying the deck is tier 1, but I don't think the things you're mentioning are what keep it down. I need to find room for 1 d-sphere and maybe 2 mutavaults to grind down opposing 3 Mana Planeswalkers. Otherwise don't forget about Teferi tuck and blast zone and counters as 3 MD way to get rid of noncreature permanents

Actually I've been playing UWx control ever since I started playing Magic so I know the whole "UW without a wincon" I've never agreed with it. Especially in modern where UW has no real closer to rely on outside of Celestial Colonnade. Which even then, Colonnade isn't much of a closer like AEtherling is and AEtherling just isn't good in the modern format. The reason why I feel he'd be good in Pioneer is cause it seems like it'll be a slower than modern. When the decks we are talking about were in standard the closer that was relied on was AEtherling and I feel like it might just be that card again that gets turned too. I mean if you are right I stand corrected, I've just personally never been a fan of not having a win condition besides planeswalkers.

This is why I hate/love Teferi. This deck is so powerful its amazing, but it feels like crap to play against. Teferi is like the Jace the Mind Sculptor of Standard and Pioneer at the moment.
