Deck Description

Alright. So my friend wanted me to make him a Black/White deck. I started looking through cards and fell in love with the idea of a deck that balanced life. Thus, I created this little monster--it focuses primarily on gaining life at the expense of your oppenent(s). I created it specifically for 1v1 play, but I think it could be pretty potent in multiplayer. I know there are a number of improvements I could make to it, but I didn't want it to be quite so expensive (for instance, there are a good number of lands I could add instead of swamps/plains), however, if you have any within-budget suggestions, I would love to hear them.

I don't plan on adding a sideboard, but if you have thoughts on one, I think it would make for interesting discussion.

How to Play

There are a lot of ways to play this, and I wanted to make a deck that had a lot of decision-making moments. It has a decent amount of spot-removal, a good amount of risk cards (for instance, killing wave and pain's reward), and different ways to play your mana as you get it onto the field (between extort, your hand, and the x costs). I added Maralen because of her utility-- she still completes your ultimate goal (both losing life), while giving you the ability to find a card you may not be having luck getting. All in all, I wanted there to be a lot of decisions in how you balance your life total.

Basic strategy- play creatures, "extort", and gain life until you can get sanguine bond and some bigger creatures on the field. Then whittle your opponents away!

As a note: be careful with Maralen. If you notice your opponent letting you hold onto her and you can win without her, it might be time for a well-placed killing wave. Similarly, if it looks like they want to all in: batwing brume. In a pinch, search for an angel's mercy or sacrifice a tainted sigil to keep yourself in the game. It also might not be a bad strategy to pull another Maralen to your hand if they look like they can't deal with her, because let's be honest, you most certainly can (;
