Mana Base: Budget 5 Mana

Want to play 5 color EDH? Allies? Elementals? Slivers! Broke? Well this here is for you!

With a five color EDH deck there is the typical drawback of sacrificing consistency to save money. While it is true that to be as optimally consistent as possible, money is needed to be spent, I spent quite some time gathering a list of resources for the budget 5 color specialist.

Every item in this list costs less than $15.00 at TCG High. Not everything here can tap for 5 mana straight up, some do it at a cost, some have limitations (looking at you Ancient Ziggurat) and others tap for limited amounts of mana.

Included in this list are some utility cards that will help make a 5 color mana base more consistent; including: Onslaught Cycles Shard and Wedge trilands and the Vivid Cycle.

Cards that are not included are: Dual lands of any kind, there are just too many to think of that fit the under the $15.00 budget limit. Creature mana dorks. While they are good, cards like Birds of Paradise, Syvlan Caryatid, Gemhide Sliver etc can be very helpful in a 5 color build, they can also be very limiting, for example Gemhide Sliver has no home away from a sliver deck, and almost every creature that taps for mana is green, which may not fit the deck you are building's theme. Of course I also did not include basic lands.

This is just a list of cards to help get your creative juices flowing.

Build and customize to your decks needs. Not creature heavy? Ancient Ziggurat may not be the way to go. Other utility cards to consider for budget decks are Panorma fetches, Evolving Wilds, Terramorphic Expanse, and Mirage fetchlands. Have a little extra money to spend? Shocks are great investment that will not only make your deck more consistent but retain long term value.
