Deck Description

This deck I'm putting together has playtested fairly well against a lot of tier 1 standard decks.

The idea behind the deck is to get out a fair number of lifelink/extort creatures/spells fairly quickly, paving the way to the power in Obzedat, Ghost Council, Blood Baron and Teysa. Teysa, Orzhov Charm, Murder and High Priest of Penance also play a slight control role.

Sorin is more or less a bonus, but is used more as a distraction while the lesser creatures continue to lifelink/extort damage from the opponent.

Ramp can be a bit of a problem if you get an unfortunate draw, but playtests have shown that it doesn't happen often. I threw in 2x Crypt Ghast to help with getting the firepower out more quickly.

Blood Artist also plays a critical role which can essentially double the lifelink damage being done by the creatures with lifelink, depending on how many copies are out, of course.

In the end, the idea is to have a small army of small creatures out, use Vault of the Archangel, and do lots of damage while also healing.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions for improvement!

Deck discussion for Orzhov (Standard)

Ok, if your looking for enchantment removal you have Cursebreak, Keening Apparition, Urgent Exorcism, War Priest of Thune, And possibly Paraselene though it may end up hurting you more. One thing I've noticed is you can use Skirsdag High Priest in a manner similar to High Priest of Penance. Though he's a bit slower, he can keep your opponent from attacking and he can use his abilities more than once. Obzedat's Aid seems a little overkill but that's just my oppinion.

Actually, I just made an extort deck myself and I've been having troubles with it. If you don't mind, may I ask which decks you have faced with this deck and how you usually won?

thanks. i actually added 4x oblivion ring to the sideboard to handle both enchantments and artifacts. i do agree that obzedat's aid might be a little overkill, it's more for emergency. i reduced the aid on the sideboard to 1 copy. i've beaten junk decks, reckoner decks, and even some vintage/legacy decks when playtesting online.

also, i'm modeling the deck around the phasing out of the innistrad block, so i'm avoiding adding cards from that block as much as possible, which is why i won't use the skirsdag high priest (or isolated chapel, etc.). i don't want to have to remodel everything in a few months :)

first tournament with this deck (minus a few key cards which i'm awaiting in the mail)

i went 3-1...got destroyed by a thragtusk/deathrite reanimator deck but beat a mono block and red/blue/black olivia/control deck

edited the sideboard with some grafdigger's cages to try to handle that thragtusk monster

Hmm tell me more. What about the Deathrite deck really through off your strategy?

well honestly i got some pretty bad draws against the deathrite deck, but there was just way too much firepower with the thragtusks and other creatures he was playing. i heard after i had played him that he is consistently the best player that plays at our venue and that he might have even played professionally.

i have enough creature control in the deck to deal with 2-3 creature at a time (unless i board in all of my control at the expense of firepower on my end). the first game i just couldn't deal with the number of creatures he had out (and i couldn't draw white mana to save my life). the second game i boarded in all of my creature control but didn't draw like any of it.

that guy didn't lose a single game all night. if i got another shot at him after finishing up the deck (i'm still awaiting a few cards in the mail), i might have a better shot.
