The owner of this deck hasn't added a sideboard, they probably should...

Deck Description

In the beginning, there was HORROR!

It used to be a control deck of mine, that focused on keeping the field clean; so clean in fact, that hexproof or shroud creatures don't stay!

One obvious weakness to this deck, a non-creature deck opponent...

How to Play

Your Creatures for this deck will be your only hit power.
They are Scarce in numbers, but your focus isn't on dealing damage, at least not on the early game.

Helldozer - Nightmare to all non-basic land players! {T}{B}{B}{B}: destroy target land, if it's non-basic, untap it! (Now imagine a late game scenario, you're taking out 2 lands per turn if opponent plays heavily duo-lands or shock-lands)

Midnight Banshee - When night time comes around, the banshees will patrol the entire field and warn the non-black creatures of their death. -1/-1 counters to ALL non-block creatures during your upkeep. (This is against token decks, weenie decks or hexproof creatures) Not to mention she is 5/5 with Wither.

Dark Impostor - Your smooth criminal, aim for a healthy 6 mana reserve and start exiling those big meanies on your opponent's field while Dark Impostor get the +1/+1 counters, in addition to a chameleon-like benefit if the exiled creature has any activated abilities.

CARD ADVANTAGE

To me, having a decent flow of extra draws is important! Especially in control decks (hell, I'd play them even with Aggros, I love drawing cards)

Underworld Connections - 2 black mana and 1 colourless ain't so bad when you're mono black. Per some life, it will save your life. (how does that make sense?)

Sign in Blood - Your one-way ticket, 2 black mana, no worries, you're mono black.

REMOVALS

I believe I'm not the only one who hates seeing Geist of Saint Threft and his angel bashing me to death at a constant base rate of 6 damage per turn.

So I'll introduce the back-door to stab, drag and mutilate this annoying hexproof creatures. MAKING THEIR OWNER SACRIFICE THEM.

Geth's Verdict - Enough said.

Tribute to Hunger - It's like Geth's Verdict, but tasty

Tragic Slip - Oops, did I see a 12/12 died from a 1 drop instant?

THE REAL DEAL TO THE DECK

You have your henchmen, your killers and now all you need are spies.

Let's start with...

Bitter Ordeal - 3 drop sorcery, let's you browse through your opponent's beautiful library and pluck one of his/her precious flowers.

Memoricide - After you had a glance with Bitter Ordeal, now you go for more ransacking, search his/her library, hand and graveyard for all copies of the NAMED CARD (you name the card before you search) and exile them. I spy with my little eye... Snapcaster.

Cranial Extraction - Same effect as Memocide!

Nightmare Incursion - For a mono black, your swamps need to do some work during late game besides letting Dark Impostor and Helldozer get all the resources, you can invest a 6 mana sorcery that lets you search and remove X cards; where X is the number of Swamps you control. A guarantee of 6 threats removed. Just like that. (Play this with Head Games played the previous turn for amazing results)

DAT LAND

Spawning Pool - Well, it's just your regen/defender for early game in case your hand is stuck with helldozer/midnight banshee and Surgical cards but you ain't got land. If that's the scenario and you don't have this land... Err... Good luck, try again.

Deck discussion for Surgeons are in your MIND

I think hard removal with a side of surgery is probably a better approach for a deck like this (e.g. hold the line until you can get the big guys out).

A cheap-ish creature like Vampire Nighthawk would help a lot. All the removal in the world isn't going to slow down a decent spam/aggro deck, not considering how very expensive your heavy hitters are (nice choosing though: I approve). Typhoid Rats is another good one.

If you're going to insist on the no-cheap-creature role, really, really, really look into the following:
- damnation
- barter in blood
- chainer's edict
- consuming vapours
- cruel edict
- innocent blood
- smallpox
- mutilate
- cower in fear
- consume the weak

Damnation is a big No no! LOL!

Hmm, My creatures are my punching force in this deck, the removals might not be able to overcome flood decks (Token decks)
I'll take Mutilate!

Damnation = Too freaking expensive >.<
Barter in blood = I'm worried about killing off my sweet creatures
Chainer's Edict = Not modern >.<
Consuming Vapours = Good! :D
Cruel Edict = I suppose Geth's Verdict will do for now
Innocent Blood = I think I'll stick to Geth's Verdict and Tribute to Hunger
Smallpox = A little too dangerous haha!
Mutilate = Awesome! Effective boardsweep!
Cower in Fear = I'm afraid it won't be strong enough
Consume the Meek = Very tricky to play, but highly effective against Flood Decks :D
