Deck discussion for Artifection

Cards like Contagion Engine and Inexorable Tide, though potentially powerful cards, look like they'll slow down the deck too much to be of any use (they both have high mana costs). Additionally splashing white for one card (Venser) seems silly to me.

Now I like the idea of poison + proliferate, but don't forget you've got metlecraft in here too. This makes me ask, why not use cards like Stoic Rebuttal? I'd also suggest Mirran Mettle, but that's an off colour. Talking about pump spells, there's one player in my group runs a mono black infect deck and she runs a set of Mutagenic Growth as she can pay 2 life to cast it and give an unblocked infector +2/+2. Additionally one of the 'tricks' she uses is to kill her opponent's first turn 1/1 with Virulent Wound. This would work wonders in this deck as it kills the opponent's 1st turn creature, it also starts the poison count for all your proliferate.

Yeah, I run both of those in my other infect. This one doesn't need pumps since tezzeret turns everything into a 5/5 permanently. Contagion Engine is easy to get out even turn 5 and sometimes earlier. It not only increases poison but it boost my planeswalkers as well so it's easier to bet their ultimate or just keep using their negatives. Venser can make anyone unblockable which is certain death from 5/5 infects. Plus his flicker with Contagion Engine renews the -1/-1 on each opponent creature effectively proliferating an extra time for free. Then to still be able to tap to proliferate twice. Endless combos and decimation. Plus I still have the mox opals to generate blue so I dont entirely need the glacial fortress, but they never slow me down because I can still use them as just a regular island if I don't need the white.

Hey Ded,

He was helping me out on my deck with this.

I know everyone it out for those early round kills. I was looking to make a more lasting game deck. The longer games feel more epic to me anyways. The focus for the deck was getting those initial poisons on and survival while you get of proliferates or just more infects from creatures. I didn't use many creature ramp ups as most where green and I was trying to stay Blue Black Artifact. I also tried to get protect from alot of decks my friends run. Some being massive creatures and other token decks.

I was trying to stay a little low budget, but I think this is around what I will be building/starting to shoot for. Well....I kind of like the previous version of this deck, but I'll looking the added white.

Yeah, I like the mid game with tezzeret so I was trying to make a fully finished version that I would more likely use. It's much more expensive than what you would use. I wanted to add venser just because it's a wonderful combination in an artifact deck. Drowned Catacomb and Glacial Fortress shouldn't be a problem for you, they cost less than $7 each now I believe. Inkmoth Nexus is down to $9. And each Planeswalker is about $10. The major things that would be removed for you are Mox Opal and Darkslick Shores, each being about $20.

I you're insistent on adding white, try make it an Esper (WUB) control-ish deck. White opens you up to cards like Oblivion Ring, Day of Judgment and other cheap ($ wise) removal. I also had an idea, if you add white, you could use Tempered Steel to make your infectors even bigger to deter opponent's bigger creatures. Shrine of Loyal Legions can produce a lot of blockers and/or fuel for Throne of Geth. I like Tezzeret's Gambit in this idea, but don't forget its lesser 'brother'; Steady Progress (more draw and proliferate can't hurt). If you're insistent on using the Contagion Engine I suggest taking it down to a 1 of and adding 3 Contagion Clasp. The Clasp is less impressive, but more reliable because it leaves more mana open for counter spells (and other spells). Lastly, I must agree that Inkmoth Nexus, Drowned Catacomb and Glacial Fortre should be a must, but you could also use Evolving Wilds or Shimmering Grotto.
