Deck Description

A Mono-black build that goes back to the earliest times of Magic, back when Mono-Black Control was THE deck to fear and strive to beat, due to a little beauty named "Necropotence." This thing won games, drew cards, cleared tournaments, shaped metas, and even more. The sheer card advantage generated from this paired with some lifegain cards from the earliest days of magic ensured you drew more cards than your opponent could ever dream.

This deck takes some aspects of the first Necropotence decks and combines it with some factors seen in today's Black control decks.

The engine consists of:
Necropotence + Ivory Tower/Zuran Orb

This allows you to draw as many cards as you want, and keep your life total up just by having an excess of lands or cards in your hand (which Necropotence excels at enabling). One you can get this combo online, your deck can play circles around the opponent with the number of creatures and removal spells you'll get access to early on.

As for newer additions to the deck from today's Standard environment, first we have the creatures. Bloodline Keeper is your main powerhouse here, as he can sit back and create lifelink-ing vampire tokens to send as a barrage at your enemy's field, generating you even more life to fuel your dark enchantment in the process. And once there are enough vamps, he can transform and pretty much spell game over for anyone, as he can now essentially create 3/3 lifelink-ing tokens, and give a +2/+2 boost to your Nighthawks (also lifelink-ing!)

The other big new addition is Desecration Demon. He can act as pseudo-removal in that he can cause pressured opponents to sac their creatures to prevent some damage. Once a locked Demon is boosted up enough, simply drop a Disciple of bolas for MASSIVE life gain and card draw.

And now we Black mages can also see pretty planeswalkers in our ranks. Liliana of the Dark Realms fits perfectly here because she can do 3 very important things for the deck:
1) Search for swamps. This accomplishes 3 tasks in that it can thin our deck so we can draw real threats easier. It can fix any mana shortages we may have. And finally, it can fuel Zuran Orb to get life back to power Necropotence.
2) Can act as a form of pinpoint removal or a buffer for the nighthawks or Disciples, turning them into a MUCH more serious threat.
3) If needed, she can ultimate and give us a nice pretty emblem, and with this emblem, virtually EVERYTHING in our deck can be played with the bare minimum of swamps, so we can immediately pitch the rest to the Zuran Orb to get life back, though by this time we should be close to winning the match.

I hope you guys enjoy the deck as much as I do, and I hope to hear any comments and criticism from the community.
