Deck Description

I have a deck list for a Glissa EDH deck, but not all of the cards. In the meantime, I wanted to construct a deck out of what I have, and I have some awesome singles in green. Also featuring two of my favorite cards in my collection, misprinted Spawnwrithe and misprinted Fog. I don't know why, but I love opening misprinted rares (well, for Spawnwrithe, not Fog.. you know :D)

The commander is Omnath, but only really because he was the only affordable, potentially stompy legend I could find in my collection. If I find another I'll likely switch them out. Would definitely like to try to get a hold of Thrun for this deck, but nobody I know who has him wants to trade.. :3

When I built my Glissa deck list, I said that was my first EDH deck. While that is technically true, this is the first EDH deck I have actually constructed, and will also be the first I play with.

So, comments, criticism, complaints, all are welcome!

Deck discussion for Omnath EDH

You might want more land in EDH, especially with Omnath. Wish owned this though, I love EDH!

I can't really generate an accurate assessment via MTGVault's sample hands (the random generator seems to clump lands together way more than a deck would actually play), but I tried 40 lands with a few other cards removed, and it seemed I'd draw an abundance of mana with nothing to spend it on. I don't know if that's typically how EDH plays, slow starts with a progressive build up.. but with 36 lands, my sample hands seem to be more consistent with how a game would be played otherwise.

I'll have to try it out in person to be sure, though, where I can draw /real/ sample hands, and not simulated.

Do you think the deck works well then? :) I'm excited to test it out, just have to wait for a few other players to get daring enough to try the format :P

My best advice is to test it out by playing others, which may be a delay for since your friends might not play EDH yet. And yes, I think it's great! The reason why I love EDH so much is because if your like me and you have many cards but only one of many different cards, than screw standard and extended, where card consistency is vital, and just make a beautiful and unique EDH or singleton deck!

Awesome ^_^ Glad I'm on the right track. 60ish singles in a deck is a daunting task :P But yeah, that's why I went with green because I have so many singles that I never bothered to complete a set of, or are oop.

Speaking of singleton, I also have an idea for a pseudo-singleton deck running only singles with the exception of 4x Leyline of Singularity, Counterspells, and Mana Leaks. I think it'll be a fun challenge, and fun deck to run in casual :)

Have you considered Kamahl, Fist of Krosa as an alternate general. I like him as a wrath deterrent. Someone plays some kind of field wipe and you turn all their lands into creatures. And an overrun whenever you want it is always nice.

Ooh, I didn't realize Ezuri's Overrun-on-a-stick had a precursor. I know I've seen Kamahl before, just never drew the correlation between the two.

Having not played a single game in the format, let alone enough to feel comfortable with the meta, I'm iffy about running commanders with CMC 4 or more. Then again, I can also predict a few distinct play styles regarding commanders.. notably whether they take proactive involvement or are reactive, with varying degrees of either.

The other two commanders I considered for this deck were Thrun and Baru, Fist of Krosa. The latter of which, I like for the pseudo-landfall with trample. I will say though, I wouldn't mind replacing Baru with Kamahl for my list of replacement generals. For now though, Omnath's mana storage has been beneficial when playing sample hands versus my bed (the bed /is/ an opponent.. damn thing sinks and bends, causing havoc for card organization)

Thanks for the suggestion :D

Not many people are going to let Omnath sit there and hold on to mana for you. Playing agains't yourself is all well and good to see how it can play out, but other people won't let some things go like the bed would :P. I for one would see him and find some way to get rid of him. He's scary in the fact that he is a beatstick and let's you play even bigger threats early on.

I'm not really banking on Omnath sticking around for more than a turn, so that's all I'm really counting on him for for mana ramp. That and Whispersilk / Asceticism / Snake Umbra / Lightning Greaves (which I still have to add) make him a scary beast. Not really counting on that either, though.

Either way, just pulled out a few more cards and I'm going to retool both of my decks before I play them (this and Glissa). Just got an Archdruid and Elvish Champion in a trade, so who knows.. this might actually become an Ezuri deck instead.
