Deck Description

This is my attempt at Rakdos.
Pro:
-enourmous damage potential
-puts the enemy in a dangerous position very early on, which forces the enemy to respond and brings him off track.
-Thanks to improvements, now more focussed on Mid-Range, which is where the Deck really shines with Beasts like Lord of Riots, Hellrider, Desecration Demon, Browbeat etc etc.
-Makes it hard for enemies to build up a lot of creatures as they die from blocking
-Using Rakdos, Lord of Riots, can put out an early 12/12 Flyer for 3 mana (Furyborn Hellkite)

Contra:
-Easily affected by control-based decks
-The Deck needs to dominate the table to really succeed, therefore doesn't play as well in two-headed giant, because of the increased game-length and less table domination

I'd really appreciate some advice on how to make this Deck a little stronger against control decks. I'm talking enchantments, or creatures that help to protect mine.

How to Play

Really self explanatory.
Play all the creatures you can, until you play Rakdos.
Deal 4 Damage via Attacking, Lightning Bolt, Bump in the night, Vexing Devil's triggered ability, Hell Rider etc etc.
The cost of Furyborn Hellkite is reduced by 4.
Play it, it's Bloodthirst ability triggers, and BAM, there's your 12/12 flyer for 3 mana. Now bathe yourself in your friends tears as you demolish them ;D

Deck discussion for Blood for the Blood God

I'm glad for improvements of all kind. With this and the following posts, I will keep the Deck's status up to date and add a history of what i added and what i put out of the deck.

2x Browbeat
1x Crybtborn Horror

Somehow greatly improved the Deck. Just playtested it, and Desecration Demon really increases the Midrange pressure, while Browbeat works similar to Vexing Devil, either you get a Card Advantage or your Opponent loses 5 life.

I'm unhappy with Ash Zealot, as it doesn't fit to the theme of the Deck. Here's a list of 2cmc creatures that could potentially be used instead:
-Treacherous pit-dweller
-Black Knight
-Grixis Grimblade
-Kargan Dragonlord
-Hand of Cruelty
-Keldon Marauders
-Blood Knight

He isn't out yet, but maybe one could try Tymaret the Murder King, just for fun!

Wow, looks like a strong, fun deck to play! But why do you have Demonic Tutor and Wheel of Fortune in the sideboard?

for casual games with friends ;) It really boosts the Deck!

Ash zealot and bump in the night? why not just add some more burn that can target creatures and players... just a suggestion. Also I think you could do with three lord of riots since he's legendary.

I want the deck to be creature based, more or less. 3 Lords of Riots might be an idea though. Do you have anything else in mind?

Desecration demon might feel at home in this deck. He'd be a 6/6 flyer for two black. About bump in the night though. If you pay its flashback ash zealot will deal 3 damage to you. One more thing, I think crypt born horror could be a big player in this deck and you should up him to two and up terminate to 2-3.

Thanks for the input man! Ash zealot helps keep up early, cheap pressure though.. so you think i have to remove bump in the night?

If you plan on using bump in the nights flash back then yes. If not then keep it.

I think you made a good choice with taking lightning mauler out. Looks good man!

hey, i love rakdos, and i love the fact you chose to build around his ability, i've never really used it to the extent that i could in my decks. also, great card choices, browbeat into rakdos would be crushing, as is sign in blood, although i really think that three copies of toil//trouble would serve you a lot better. you can draw with toil whenever you want and you can turn it into a browbeat with trouble when you need the damage, and entwining it on an opponent is evil especially after a sphinx's revelation. also, i am puzzled by the ball lightnings and ash zealots. are they just there for the hasty damage? if so, i would think something like spike jester or exava would serve you better, since you got guys running around with +1/+1 counters anyway, those cacklers wont be dead draws ;) my last suggestion is taking out the lightning bolts (yes, i know, heresy) and putting in some seal of fires. they are AMAZING in an aggro deck as they take the spot of the one drop and can be sacrificed for a free shock at instant speed. imagine, on the curve, casting rakdos lord of riots turn 4, or craking two of them to cast a 4/4 cryptborn horror on turn three. yes, its that good, and its not even counting any attacking creatures you got. and did i say its FREE?

anyway, if you wanna take a look at my deck (i've had it since original ravnica) i think you might like some of the ideas, especially fists of the demigod since it makes any BR creature a major threat. http://www.mtgvault.com/morgoth424/decks/unleash-the-rakdos-fury/
please leave a comment on it yourself if you feel so inclined, i'm always willing to listen to the advice of a fellow rakdos mage!

First of all, thanks for your thoughtful comment! It's very much appreciated!

Now, about the cards you mentioned.

Yes, the Ball Lightnings are in the Deck for quick damage. Spike Jester would be an idea, but his weak body makes him a bit undesirable imo. Ball Lightning hits quick, and hard. It's also usually hard to respond to, because you would have to waste a counter on a card that leaves the battlefield at the end of the turn anyway.. It's trample makes sure that he isn't just blocked by any 1/1 (which would be enough to kill the spike jester!)

Ash Zealot is there for another reason though. A cheap 2/2 creature with first strike and haste really helps to keep the table cleaner in the early game. It can also slow aggro decks down, simply because your opponent will think twice when he's attacking you, as it might cause the loss of important early game creatures on his side.
Exava is a good idea though. I have a spare copy lying around here somewhere and I'll definitely try her out in the Deck.

About the lightning bolts: I really love the speedy 3 damage to either damage my opponents or remove an annoying creature for just 1 mana. I guess I don't have to tell you that it's really good! Anyway, Seal of Fire is a great idea. I will put 2 seals in for 1 Bump in the night and 1 lightning bolt.
In that regard, what do you think of "Rift bolt"? The suspend part, i mean

About toil//trouble: Yes! I don't own it though. I will order it the next time me and my friends order single cards.

Lastly, I will check out your deck right now! and thanks again!

ball lightning is a great card, i am very well aware of the tempo boost you can get from it, but it seems like a hard card to cast consistently, i'd recommend hellspark elemental over him if you really like the idea of an out of nowhere huge tempo gain, partially cause it has a great flashback cost. ash zealot is also a good card, dont get me wrong, but i never liked it just because i feel the 3 power on the spike jester and hellspark elementals are more relevent than firststrike in a deck like this. anyway, why would any rakdos player care about blocking lol? also rift bolt is a great card in its own right, but lightning bolt plain outclasses it. but it does have some of the same synergies seal of fire has with rakdos and cryptborn horror, so it seems like a good idea! turn one rift bolt is my favorite play in legacy burn :)

I'd add a few Guttersnipes, with all the instants and sorcery spells you have. It's an easy way to sneak 2 damage in! Another cheap way to insure you get damage dealt is goblin fireslinger. I like this deck, bud!

Thanks for the input! I don't want to add goblins though, it doesn't fit the deck's style in my opinion! Even Ash zealot is a thorn in my eye!

instead of ball lightning I prefer hell's thunder; flashback + flying though can inflict 5 damages instantly rather than a 6/1 trample that can be burned by shock or bolt, or a feast for two drop first strike.

I'd consider swapping out the big dragon for something that you might still be able to play if Rakdos doesn't work. Since you're only playing 22 mana it might be difficult to consistently get your 4th land drop on the 4th turn.
If you want to keep a high cast one your choice is solid, I'd also consider the Knollspine Dragon to help maintain board control if they manage to board wipe or pick off your big guys.

Skullcrack in the sideboard? Nice counter for lifegain decks. You've still got two more spaces in the sideboard.

I feel like this has a lot of spells with multiple colour symbols in the mana cost, so some more dual lands might be helpful, like blood crypts for example

Guttersnipe, Rakdos Shred-Freak, Spike Jester, and maybe Hound of Grislebrand would be good fits and Haste is good in general. For cheap creatures, Mogg Flunkies is always an option, and to help against control decks, Rakdos Charm, Skull Rend, Mind Rot, and Rakdos's Return can always help with Card Advantage and forcing discards can make yard Hate with Crypt Incursion and Rakdos Charm pretty scary. You could also throwin a Pulse Tracker to combo with your Hellriders....
