Deck Description

I think just about everything here will explain itself if you look it over.

Idea originated with the idea that Talrand and Nivmagus with a high mana epic experiment could/ would be brutal. It could possible generate a ton of drakes for an overload, plus buffing the hell out of a Nivmagus. Guttersnipe came to me as an idea for extra damage throughout, snap for extra uses of spells and a chump blocker.

Curse of echoes just seems like an annoying card to come against when playing with a control deck, counterspells become useless, destroy cards become more questionable in use. It's a good tempo disruption in most cases. (REMOVED FOR LOTUS)

Ghost quarter is to destroy caverns if they do pop up, at least hopefully. That way it opens up counterflux to countering creature threats. (SIDEBOARDED)

Jace is so underthought of, he can generate good card advantage and stall opponents with aggro decks pretty good into later turns.

Finally Epic Experiment is my win condition or so I hope, with Guttersnipe, Nivmagus, and Talrand it should generate a ton of threat and advantage.

Note: I want to put in some mana accel or pumping for an Epic Experiment. I was thinking of izzet keyrunes and or gilded lotus. But I don't know what I would want to take out. Snapcasters? Thought Spiral into sidebar? Also any suggestions on adjustment of number of each different card like more nivmagus instead of x card or what have you. Or suggest replacing this x counter spell with y. However extreme change up don't interest me. ---Decided that the Izzet Keyrune is kind of weak at only 2/1 Gilded seems like better acceleration for epic experiment anyways.

Negates are now sideboard for against for spell heavy decks, dissipate mainboarded for better control.

Deck discussion for Izzet Tempo

I think that you will want to create your sideboard to deal with the situational things you mentioned at the top.

Specifically, I would sideboard Ghost Quarter since it is in there to handle a specific card and use something like Izzet Guildgate or even just a couple of basic lands.

I like the Izzet Keyrune, but not sure where to fit it in (very helpful I know).

This is just a personal preference on my part, but I tend to avoid cards like Negate/Essence Scatter. There really isn't much worse than having a Negate in your hand when your opponent drops some crazy creature with haste that kills you on the spot. My personal favorite counterspell right now is Dissipate. You could also use Cancel, but you get more for the same cost with Dissipate.

Hopefully this is at least somewhat helpful to you, thanks for your comments on my Izzet Deck.

Thanks, I'm absolutely going to sideboard Ghost Quarter now that you mention it. The Izzet Keyrune was something i was thinking of adding, the little mana "accel" sorta and the creature only when you want it to be is nice especially coming up against terminus or something.

Negate, I think i'm going to sideboard these also, I'll test with out them for a while see what I think. Personally I think Negate is a really good counter, only costing two means a lot and I'm more worried about stuff like detention sphere, terminus, murder etc that will target my board than creatures. However dissipate isn't much of a downer in really any manner so it's worth a shot.

Thanks!

Hey nice deck. I would probably put ghost quarter in your sideboard and just add in some basic lands. Also, I would take out the negates and add in a burn spell, maybe annihilating fire, so you can attack the player or their creatures directly.
I like your creature choices, especially snapcaster and talrand. Perhaps an archaeomancer or charmbreaker devils (the latter is pretty costly but its an awesome card) could be included? But yeah, overall, you have an interesting deck. :-)

Based on the responses I'm going to take your advise amongst the others with sideboarding Ghost Quarters, really isn't much to say for that card I suppose, only really fits a niche which doesn't always need to be filled.

As far as negates versus something, I might turn them part into dissipates and parting into burn spells based on your suggestion. Probably helpful that I do an Epic Experiment into extra burn spells help ensure a win like that. Annihilating Fire seems like a great choice especially against zombies like Geralf's Messenger and Gravecrawler.

As for creatures I really am trying to keep down on creatures so that my Epic Experiment doesn't pull a ton of creatures, really hoping to keep down that number. Archeomancer I couldn't care less for however the Charmbreaker devils are really cool. That could be so devastating under the right conditions, I might add in two for the fun of trying instead of curse of echoes.

I actually love this deck. I've been building and Izzet mill deck and your deck here will be a great help for me. You mentioned that you were looking for ways to ramp up your mana for a truly epic Epic experiment. I honestly think that most people are over looking the crazy value of Battle Hymn at the moment. You don't have a lot of standard creatures in your deck but if Talrand has been ont he field for a turn or so, you should have enough creatures to feed your casting pot. I honestly have no idea what I would take out instead for it though, so you'll have to consider that yourself.

Another underrated card that will make your deck spin would be Past in Flames. Giving your spells a lower flashback ( in some cases) of jus flashback in general would be devastating. And again, triggering Talrand leading to maybe second epic experiment. But in order to run the Past in flames, the Nivmagus Elementals would have to go.

Curse of Echos is annoying, but isn't that great of a card for this deck in my opinion. I would pull it out for some more counters (Dissipate or Syncopate).

I really hope this helps. You really have a great deck idea. If you could give my Izzet a look over, I'd really like it.

I greatly appreciate your compliment and suggestions! I'm glad you can take something away from these deck to help yourself out.

Battle Hymn, good god I never knew... that could be ridiculous here for a second epic experiment, or depending of far into the game even just the first one. I'll absolutely be looking for a place to at least test these out.

Past in Flames, interesting, however not here. I'm not so much for using Flashback in this deck, it's kind of just a fun niche on some of the cards and Snapcaster is for when I really need it but 4 mana, plus the flash back seems like probably too much.

Curse of Echoes I've heard some interesting stories about people not realizing just how big of an impact it can make, but I think I agree. For now I'm going to sideboard it, and put in something else.

Thanks again for the comment and suggestions. I'll be taking a look over your deck soon.

Okay, it works in some respects, countering isn't nearly as effective as it should be in this deck, running more burn tends to do good, dissipate is too much mana even with being a control deck like this, negate served better.

You should look at running nivix cyclops, its good if you don't hit EE and brutal if you do
