Deck Description

Ok, decks got a couple things going for it, one is the thragtusk, Voice of Resurgence (Swagtusk and stagtusk) and Restoration Angle, which make a great combo. and the other is throwing in black for Varolz, Deadbridge Chant and golgari removal.

Tell me what you think and how I can make it any better. thanks!

Deck discussion for Swagtusk? Stagtusk?... Tusk...

I like the idea with Deadbridge Chant! One thing I'd try is either Rancor or Unflinching Courage. Selesnya Charm is good though, so it's really whatever you prefer. For sideboard you should try out Blood Baron of Vizkopa, Skylasher, and maybe Voice of Resurgence (doesn't seem like a mainboard card to me), then some not new sideboard cards, lol (can't name them right now).

Ah thanks for your comment and suggestions! I only have one question though, as the Voice has a nice 2 drop creature role in my deck, are there any other 2 drop creatures I could replace him with if I was to sideboard him? I can't really main board Skylasher as he's really only good against the blue decks.

I'm thinking Farseek, Abrupt Decay and Selesnya Charm fill that role well enough, especially if you add the enchantment(s). For creatures there is not much. You could either add another set of mana dorks to jump the curve, or you could try out some decent bodies with some decent abilities...I found Cloistered Youth, a 3/3 body after a turn, Tithe Drinker, a 2/1 with Lifelink and Extort, and... not... much... else O.o
Apparently these colours are weird for that. Voice may be the best choice.

Hahaha Voice rhymes with choice.

Congrats, this actually looks like a tournament winner to me. No real bad match ups, just really solid midrange. Lingering souls might help, but i don't know that you need them. craterhoof behemoth might be a fun one of, or sideboard, but everything about this deck looks right to me! try competing with it!

To me, Varolz and Deadbridge Chant seem a little out of place. They are much better for Zombies and Junk Reanimator respectively, and there are other cards that could help this deck out a lot more. Armada Wurm and Angel of Serenity come to mind to replace Deadbridge Chant, and Centaur Healer can help you even out and last longer against Boros Humans and Naya Blitz match-ups, which can replace Varolz. Other than that it look pretty friggin' awesome.

Mmmm one major problem with taking them out besides the fact that Those cards are half the point of the deck would be how badly that would screw up my mana situation. Having black purely for 6 removal cards hardly seems like its worth it, If i take those cards out well then, this is just like any other boring resto/thragtusk deck. Deadbridge chant is superior in this deck to armada warm or angel of serenity in that it gives you card advantage and can make threats come back over and over which is nice. Varolz pairs really nicely with cards such as luxodon smitter, and VoR, just letting you continuously make threats out of things your opponents would otherwise stop worrying about. I agree the cards you mentioned would be nice for a deck like this, however the specific style and twist of gameplay this deck has when your opponent is playing it for the first time make it better in my opinion.

P.S. wednesday you said this deck was awesome! why the change of heart?
And thanks for your comment!

If you are worried about there being too little black spells you might add Obzedot or Sorin LoI, I just don't think that Deadbridge Chant is that powerful of an ability in a deck like this. Bant Flash can take advantage of your self milling, and can render Varolz essentially useless. Obzedot can help you with that match-up, and Sorin can give you more pluses than Deadbridge Chant will.

Deathbridge seems like a "win more" card. By the time you can drop it don't you already dominate the board? I'd probably swap it for a tempo grabber that let you dominate faster rather then dominate more...
Just a thought.

Hmm. I like that idea, but may I ask what specifically you have in mind?

Something along the lines of Voice would be good, (Thalia?). Knight of the White Orchid is a great tempo critter in a multi colored deck but the WW might turn you off? Turn 1 Judge's Familiar is a great stall, (and it flies), maybe even Deathrite Shaman with some fetchlands...?

no man. He has no way to draw cards at all. Deadbridge is pure card advantage if the game stalls out for some reason. Anything that traded early, it'll be back for more. instants and sorceries too. Those two cards just give him late game potential and offer serious resilience against a supreme verdict.

So my buddys and I playtested your deck against what I would think would be its weakness and this is what I found:

Against my Wr Humans, (w/ Reckoner and Spear), it is too slow without Arbor and Thrag dropping immediately and even then it struggles mightily.
Against WW with evasion, (Birds/Angels), it is completely toast. In both cases Thalia dominates.

Against UW Tempo I found it a little closer but when the lock sets it is over. Too much early "speed" to recover from and no Thrag will ever hit the table. Ghost Quarter is also a killer here.

Against these decks Deadbridge was never a factor, (speed).

It did really well against a couple of other midrange decks I tried it against and performed surprisingly well against a control deck I ran it against.
Try it a FMN or two and tweek it a little before you take it to a tourney, it could be fun!

So Deadbridge is definitely a card more suited for the longer match ups against midrange and control (thank you for play testing this by the way) and would need to be side boarded out for aggro match ups. I realize geralf's messenger is probably a bad card for a tri color deck, so do you think throwing in some avacyn's pilgrims would be a good for helping to jump to the higher drops faster or do you have a better idea/card? (such as dredge mangler?)
Thank you so much for all your help.

Sorry for the late reply, been busy working my butt off and prepping for a tourney.
Mangler might work, only playtesting will tell tho..
I was trying to think of a tempo grabber that might give you 1/2 a turn advantage but my head has been buried in Modern legal cards for the past weeks so I am drawing a complete blank.
Maybe someone just finished playing a Standard tourney might be able to help out more...?

I feel like Garruk could be a lot better than Deadbridge Chant and he can give you a huge card advantage compared to DC. It doesn't really interact with your opponent very well, but he's a great card to throw down when you're behind and he can give you a crapton of cards while you have Varolz on the field.

Sin Collector is a must have in the SB I've found. It's just so strong vs Esper, plus, you've got that Resto Angel so you don't even neeeed a full set.
