Overextended Dredge

by SoulofMirrodin on 08 December 2013

Main Deck (60 cards)

Sideboard (0 cards)

No sideboard found.

The owner of this deck hasn't added a sideboard, they probably should...

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

I am starting to grow tired of Modern, so I am starting to think of what decks would be like in Invasion-Forward Overextended. It is supposed to keep Modern's turn 4 rule, which states that no deck should be able to consistently win before turn 4. Here is the banned list.

Blazing Shoal
Chrome Mox
Dark Depths
Disciple of the Vault
Dread Return
Entomb
Glimpse of Nature
Hypergenesis
Mental Misstep
Mind's Desire
Past in Flames
Punishing Fire
Rite of Flame
Sensei's Divining Top
Skullclamp
Tendrils of Agony
Umezawa's Jitte

Any help with the deck or discussion of my banned list would be much appreciated.

Deck discussion for Overextended Dredge

Thats a tough nut to crack!
How do you design the best possible deck when it must'n be better than turn 4 kills?
I'm speculating that you might try to raise interrest in a "modern" version of the deck, in which case I might have a go with it :D

Otherwise I can only tell you how I would try to build it myself, with lots of weird tools and ideas :P

The rusalka is a cool way to use the bridges, but perhaps a bit too unreliable?
And there are far to many lands. 12's the usual number for dredge!

Thanks for the advice, I am trying out more Golgari Thugs, Beck // Call, and Lotleth Troll instead of the extra lands and Drowned Rusalka.

Beck // Call didn't work, I am going to try out Tireless Tribe.

What exactly is the purpose? Is this a new format, or some local event?
if new stuff is allowed try to see if you can salvage something from this:

Theres some old stuff in there as well but it might not work in your setup, but it's worth a look!

The purpose is me wanting to get to the point at which I can see what the metagame would be and what would be viable. If it is something that I like, I might host an event on MTGO for it.

Whoa! That's ambitious! I mean, noone should be able to predict the meta-game for a non-existant format :D
So it's a personal pet experiment! I like that!

Yeah, hopefully it will work. If you or anyone else wants to help create decks for this, please do.

Well, if I was to participate in such a tournament, I would probably play mill there as well, so think of what extra cards I could use in it and work from there, by now you should know my preferrences :D Appart from that, I think the first thing people try to build is a version of reanimate, so if the format have any spells superior to modern they will be used in creating a reanimate-deck!

There is Life // Death and Buried Alive for reanimator, unfortunately the existence of Griselbrand forced me to ban Entomb, which is a big hit to them. As for mill, there isn't much extra that I can see.

Heh! I guess you didn't look hard enough :D
There are 1865 extra cards to go through in your extended modern format!
Out of these cards I only made it to the beginning of "F" but I've already found 10 cards that I would involve in mill:
ambassador llaquatus, balshan beguiler, bamboozle, book burning, brain freeze, deep analysis, do or die, dreamborn muse, extract and false memories.

Llaquatus is not my thing but merfolk mill is viable.
balshan beguiler is not my thing too, but it could be used.
bamboozle is stretchy at best.
book burnings a wild ace.
deep analysis is a must for mesmeric orb mill-variants!
do or die is pretty good removal for milldecks like mine!
dreamborn muse has potential.
extract would make mill hype throughout modern. So nuts!!!
False memories allows for a more flashback based type of milldeck!

I begin to understand why wotc set the start of the "modern" format at mirrodin to avoid a combo-based format, which isn't very "modern" but rather a regression, so I understand your curiosity about what would have happened if they had lovered the bar!
The number of spells that makes combo explode in your format are numerous, even down to the sackable duals that gives 2 mana in a set combination which allows for a turn 3 storm combo with chromatic star and the like. There are so many combo-pieces in these expanding sets that you will have to ban half of it :D
