Deck Description

4c Countertop!

I personally like the trinket mage targets maindecked. Pithing needle and Explosives are amazing. Academy Ruins recurs the explosives.

I added in Lightning bolt after some playtesting over Trygon Predator. Trygon is a great creature, but just didn't seem to fit well. Adding in bolt gave me 7 spot removal spells, and along with firespout, destroys Merfolk, Goblins, Affinity and other weenie type decks. I also tried Daze, but counterspell in my meta seemed to fit better, and it was still a 2 -drop for counterbalance.

I may eventually cut the white and go black, adding in Maelstrom Pulse + Dark Confidant + some hand distruption, but we'll have to see, duals are expensive :(.

Still working out my sideboard.

Deck discussion for Legacy Countertop

i would definitely recommend the dark confidant for grave hate, but tormon's crypt might work well with an extra trinket mage if you already have a top
also if you have multiple hates one plithing needle doesn't shut your entire hate system down
i would sideboard some artifact hate also, just in case you happen to be against affinity
i think this looks pretty solid though, sorry but I haven't really tried to play a counterbalance yet...

I'll put crypt and another needle in my sideboard. I could also run Null Rod, although it'd hurt my top, as well. Black also opens me up to Engineered Plague, which murders tribal, i.e- elves, goblins, merfolk.

i would argue to put destruction into your sb more so then just stopping the effects of
affinity is famous for dumping its entire hand on turn one and you want to have destruction to take out some of their key artifacts
if you don't want destruction, running something like energy flux also rips right through affinity decks
