Deck Description

Who says Golgari self-mill graveyard decks need black? The forests offer plenty of evil to abuse, in order to attack with a deathjuice-powered semi-undead avalanche.

Tried and tested, this deck is a blast to play, if only to see the baffled faces of your opponents who can't grasp the idea of a mono-green graveyard based deck :p

It's quite challenging to build a graveyard based selfmill deck without using black, but that was the entire concept when I built this. Screw standard and unoriginal decks that've been done thousands of times!
The deck is working now, which it wasn't at all when I first made it (it basically only ran on Lhurgoyf and Nemesis of Mortals). Right now I've got a good amount of survivability, self-mill and powerful creatures.
I'm still looking to make this deck even more effective, though. Preferably I'd get rid of Commune with the Gods and Kruphix's Insight and swap them with creatures, but they're very good self-mill cards.

So, all feedback and ideas are welcome!

P.S.: Sideboard = maybeboard

How to Play

Easy:

Fill your graveyard using Tinder Wall, Satyr Wayfinder, Commune With The Gods and Kruphix's Insight, as well as with Golgari Gravetroll. Tinder Wall is a fantastic asset! Sac directly for 2 red (=colorless) mana!

Then either play Ghoultree cheaply, or play powerful Splinterfright, Golgari Gravetroll or my precious Lhurgoyf, attack for craploads of damage whilst Brawn hopefully is in your graveyard :-)

Kessig Cagebreakers also is a creature they'll want to take out before he attacks.

Gnaw To The Bone makes you live a bit longer (ironic considering all the graveyard-injected power in this deck), and the little creatures serve as blocking fodder which also fill your graveyard.

Also: please mill me, I beg of you :D

I like your use of Kruphix's Insight. Hadn't really considered it for a graveyard deck. Might have to do some switching up. I like the new Undergrowth Scavenger and have one in my deck but Golgari Grave-Troll looks like the better card.

Thanks :-) When you want to make a mono green graveyard deck, you've got to work with what you've got :-) And 6 cards in my graveyard can make a lot of difference!
Actually, Lhurgoyf is much better! His power/toughness keeps rising because he doesn't get counters.
Golgari Grave-Troll is very versatile though, whereever he's at. Pity he's so expensive, that's why I only bought 3 :-)

Thank you sir. This is exactly what I was looking for - a budget selfmill that might work. Plus it stays in green, that's also apriciated. I've tried to build self mill before but haven't work. I will try this one if I may.
Do you think Nemesis of mortals isn't worth trying?

Hiya! So glad you can appreciate this deck :-) It's a very original concept (mostly because of the mono greenness) that I haven't seen elsewhere yet, and véry fun to play! :D

Funnily, I had Nemesis of Mortals in before, but Ghoultree is far better. It's a bit more expensive (cash-wise), but in the best case scenario (which you'll get very often, this deck is very consistent) it only costs you 1 green mana, whereas Nemesis will always cost you 4 green mana at least.

I'm going to change one more thing soon, and that's adding 2 more Brawns, because the trample is just a necessity for this deck. A friend of mine also suggested Dense Foliage, to make àll creatures have shroud. It's a bloody good idea, because I don't target my own creatures (especially once I switch the Vipers for Brawns) or anyone elses, and it messes up other's gameplay :D You also have a chance of fetching it with Kruphix's Insight.

It's an expensive card, though, 2euro's here, and I think I'll stick to the budget version of this deck.

If you have ideas how to make this deck even better, let me know!

I agree with necessity of trample here and brawn is good choice. you could use some rancor but I'd vote for brawn. I'm not sure about Dense foliage but thats just first sight I would have to test it. But you should have something to protect the big guys at least in side. Dont know if something like Vines of Vastwood or Rangers guile would serve better or not.
Have a look at Street wraith, it is almost-free creature in grave.

Yeah true... I'm a bit wary about enchantsments and instants though. Playtesting taught me this deck needs loads of creatures and the bare minimum of other spells (with Gnaw to the Bone as exception, that card saved my life plenty :D). It's crazy to be able to play 2 Ghoultree's in turn 3 or 4 with trample :D

I'm gonna add the Brawn's and see what happens then... And try and trade me some Dense Foliages.

Sweet deck!

So I would start by suggesting a playset of Tarmogoyfs and Vengevines...

...

... kidding! =P

Since all of your graveyard sinergy is based around the number of creatures in your graveyard I would switch lands with mana dorks to have a bigger creature count and also some mana ramp to accelerate the deck. I would try something like this:
In: 4x Elvish Mystic 2x Mulch
Out: 3x forest 2x Kruphix's Insight 1x Gnaw to the bone

I would start with this and see how the deck works with 20 lands. Probably fine, mine does and is 2 colors. Maybe you can cut even more! See if you like it.

Glad you like it!

I could use some more mana, technically, but haven't really felt the need for it in the games I played this deck (and terrified my opponents :p). Tinder Wall helps as a defender as well as a one-time ramper, giving me 2 colorless mana, ànd fills my graveyard in the meantime.
Kruphix's Insight gives me 6 self-mills, which is quite a lot! It increases the chance of having a Golgari Gravetroll in my graveyard, which usually is the point of no return for my opponents. I've been in doubt a lot about switching it with Mulch because it gives you the lands, but still... Gnaw to the Bone is my survival card, and I just went and put more in :-) That card saved my ass loads of times!

I'm liking the ideas, but I'm afraid it'll kill the way it works now :-) It's doing very well lately, even in multiplayer free-for-all matches, which I play often.

I threw out Kruphix's Insight in exchange for Scout The Borders, a far better card. It dredges only 5 cards instead of 6 for the same 3 mana, but it lets me keep a creature or land, whichever I need more. Brilliant! :-)
