Deck Description

SavageTheCabbage just pointed out that Skirk Prospector is not tournament legal in Modern, which I didnt realize until just then. With that card out of this deck, it's pretty hard for me to believe that this deck might be salvageable for Modern. If anyone knows of any suitable replacemtns for the prospector, Id gladly accept the. If not, then this deck may just have to become a casual deck =/

Meant to be fast. Really fast.
***
I think the deck may have the potential to kill T1, but Im not sure. I know it can do 15 damage at least, but I'm still looking into 20.
1 Mountain, 2 Memnites, 1 Mox Opal, 1 Kuldotha Rebirth, 1 Skirk Prospector, Sacrifice a Gob for Furnace Scamp, Sacrifice 2 Gobs for kicked Goblin Bushwacker. Swing and sac Furnace Scamp for a grand total of 15 damage. (Also, you're practically gauranteed to win next turn)
***
Apart from that combination, the deck is ripe with 1drop combos that really get out of hand quickly and should be able to kill by, at the latest if all goes well, T3.

Cards to consider if this deck goes casual: Brightstone Ritual, Ashnod's Altar, Skirk Prospector, etc...

Deck discussion for Modern Gobs

+4x Simian Spirit Guide (-2 Mox Opal, -2 Skirk Prospector)

Just my opinion ^-^ Haven't had great success running more than 2x Opals, especially in red which needs useful top-decks. Running more than needed could easily lose you the game when you draw one on your fourth turn.

Also, Bushwhacker is great for a nut draw, but I've had more consistent success with Goblin Wardriver.

Normally I would agree with Simian Spirit Guide, but multiple Mox Opals opening hand are not bad at all thanks to Kuldotha Rebirth. And Skirk Prospector is BROKEN in this deck. Imagine dropping 2 Memnites and a Mox Opal then using the Mox to sac itself to Kuldotha Rebirth. Now drop another Mox Opal and a Skirk Prospector with the Mox. You now have an insane sac engine with a potential 5 mana OR MORE first turn. As for now, that's mostly useful for dropping tons of Gobbies and some Lenses to draw into more Gobs and burn, but Im also considering adding 2 Chandra, the Firebrands in here and that combo would allow for a T1 Chandra with a doubled Goblin Grenade for 10 damage turn 1. Normally Id love to add Simian Spirit Guide in here, but this engine is just too crazy to pass up. Thanks though :)

Ah, you're right about that. Kuldotha Red is all about bombing an opening hand on the opponent. Problem I've had is the consistency of the draw, though. I've opened too many times with two Moxen and no Rebirths. Of course, that's a mull, but KDR doesn't like mulling too much -- it already suffers from the boom/bust of dropping a full hand by turn 2 and one less card can make the difference when you're within bolt range of winning, but don't have the card advantage to swing it.

I see Gaveleer in your SB. I run him in my KDR with a pair each of Viridian Claws and Skullclamps (it's casual, so /shrug/), mostly because I don't have any Guides :( He is /sick/ with battlecry, though! The claws I add because it adds survivability to my Wardrivers, which I find necessary some games due to the aforementioned boom/bust quality of the deck. Turning Gaveleer into a beast is just a perk :)

Also, it's slower but I've been favoring Perilous Myr over Furnace Scamp. Something you might want to experiment with, just personal preference though. Once again, he helps compensate for when I don't get the perfect opening hand and suffer the whole boom/but spiel.

i was looking at perilous for a little while, but this deck has the potential to put out a bunch of stuff early AND still have a big enough mana engine to dropa T1 Bushwacker kicked, meaning that Furnace Scamp alone can do 5 damage T1. Honestly, I've made the physical deck, but I havent playtested yet. There could be a lot of changes made to it after playtesting, but so far the idea of killing people EASILY by turn 2 is quite appealing lol.

Ah, once again I've underestimated bombing your opening hand XD I don't quite run this much mana accel in my KDR, so I typically consider Bushwhacker to be either a second turn battle cry or third/fourth turn saving grace for a late game Rebirth (because you know, turn 3 and 4 should be end game for this deck :P)

I rethought Simian Spirit Guide and playtested them for a little while btw. Really improved the consistency of big T1 drops since I can get the combos rolling with any 2 of the 3 T1 mana accels, which is better than needing a Mox Opal first turn always, so thanks for the note on that one :) The only other issue I'm really running into is card draw. Infiltration Lens SEEMED like it would work well, but when there are 4 2/2s attacking somebody and they only have two creatures, its extremely easy to just let the Lens 2/2 through anyways. I keep looking back at Slate of Ancestry, since technically its possible to drop T1 and my abundance of T1 creatures essentially lets me refill my hand and just keep going, but it costs a LOT of mana and without Skirk Prospector its unreliable to expect to actually USE it until around T3 or T4, so Im not sure how viable that is. Any thoughts? =/

I agree about the lens, I only run them because of Gaveleer and if I expire my hand and am left with only a few creatures, it's either extra damage to bring them within bolt / grenade range, or it's extra cards.

Try Browbeat. It absolutely !murders! with this deck :)

Huh.. you know, Skirk Prospector isn't legal :( It was only reprinted in Onslought and two non-legal sets (Vs.)

I don't think it ruins the deck, just requires a little rearranging. Slate of Ancestry goes for sure, and Browbeat is a must have the more I think about it. That card literally wins games :)

Cards printed in Time Spiral: Timeshifted are modern legal :) Even though they don't have a modern border. magiccards.info and gatherer both have modern card legalities updated.

Really?! =D Well, that certainly helps, but Im not sure this deck is salvaged quite yet. The first turn now seems really muddled since I lost one of my biggest mana producers =/

I still think Slate needs to go. It's just too expensive and you'll spend your "free" mana just to cast it, and another turn to activate it. That's two nonproductive turns that you can't afford. More creatures will be your saving grace. Also Lava Spike is unnecessary with Browbeat. That'll free up 4x cards for +1 Mountain and maybe +3 Wardrivers? The battlecry is what really sends the damage potential over the top with Rebirth.

Also, I've been trying out 2x Mox Opals and 1x Chrome Mox. It solves the problems I've had with 3x Opals and works a /lot/ better than my just 2x Opals. It's great when you exile a Simian Spirit Guide to it, since it's expected to be exiled anyways :) Just note that Chrome Mox reads "you may remove a card..." so you can cast is without imprinting anything, and it just won't produce mana, but will still serve as 0-cost sac fodder.

I totally agree with everything youve said.

There's only a few things Im still contemplating. One is Chandra in here. Quite simply, I LOVE reverberating Kuldotha Rebirths and Goblin Grenades, but im still debating if 4 mana is too hifgh for this curve =/
Also, Im still toying with the idea of Gaveleers with Lenses but Im not sure =/

I like the idea of Chandra but I think she's a risky play. 4 mana is difficult to pull off here, especially without spending your Spirit Guides or Opal's metalcraft on a rebirth. You could pull off a first turn Chandra, but at a minimum of five cards used to do so. My main problem is that she's always within bolt range of losing reverberate, unless you use her -2 the turn you cast her but then you need 5 mana. Imo, just hardcasting a reverberate would be more effective in this deck.

Also, have you ever noticed that you can pay {R} when you sacrifice Panic Spellbomb to Rebirth to draw a card? I've never noticed that until now O.O For some reason I'd always just assumed the ability to draw a card was inherent to it's ability to self-sac...

Check out my Modern Rebirth. I had to "downgrade" it from Legacy, and losing Lotus Petals put a real hurt on the deck, but I think it's adapted well :)

Yeah... Chandra is really bumming me out in the playtesting. The problem is that, if I have her in a farily decent starting hand, I shouldnt ever really need her because the game willbe going so fast and she's just dead-weight. But on the chance that my opponent is causing me big problems, upping the damage threshold of Goblin Grenade or even Lightning Bolt can save my ass. I guess Ill have to playtest a bunch and see what happens.

To be totally honest, I wasnt the one who noticed that awesome perk of Panic Spellbomb; My friend played a really shitty Kuldotha Rebirth deck for a little while and he pointed out that nice combo to me. Definitely a VERY good target for Rebirth tho :D

Definitely will take a look at your deck and hopefully give you some good advice. Thanks for all of yours :)

HAH! Just got back from the Magic Celebration mini master tournament. I /dominated/. First booster rare was Grim Lavamancer with Goblin Fireslinger, Scepter of Empires, and Blood Ogre. Second pack I opened Chandra and Carnage Worm. Third pack I opened Inferno Titan. They were freaking stacked!

Anywho, just mentioning this because I opened a Chandra :D

Dude thats freaking awesome. My M12 draft didnt go so hot. I opened up a mix-bag of junk-rares that had nothing in common. But after the tourny and I got my 10th to last place consolation prize (3 packs), I got 2 Chandras (1 foil) an Inferno Titan, and aGrave Titan. Why could I not get those BEFORE the tourny... O_o

Hopefully I'll be able to trade for 2 more Chandras tonight ^-^ I fell in love with the card when I realized how even more badass her second ability is. o.o Next spell you cast /until the end of the turn/. Only card I could copy was Incinerate, but in limited that's enough to win :D Her +1 being a measly 1 point of damage was also more effective than I thought it'd be. Mostly just because I brought her up to 8 counters and dumped her -6 for the win :P

Great deck, but Chandra seems out of place. As a one-of she'll be unreliable at best. On top of that, this deck is balls-to-the-wall speed aggro, a 4-mana plainswalker just doesn't seem fitting. Maybe the playtesting will suggest otherwise, but I question Chandra's value in this deck.

Yeah Im still debating on Chandra in here too. Like I said already above, she extends the threat range in turns 3 to 4 allowing for a big kill, but is a dead draw in a 2-3 turn game. Im gonna have to playtest this one to figure out whether she should stay in or not =/

what is your opinion of the new card "stalked prey" from innistrad for this deck? I kinda like it, only 2 to cast, enchant player, whenever a creature deals damage to that player put a +1/+1 counter on that creature...... pretty powerful.

side note: would love to have an opinion on whether I should add some death's shadow to my casual modern deck

Well I'll be... >.> It /is/ banned. It seems so arbitrary next to a Post ramping out 18 mana per turn.. :P

Stalked Prey is 100% bad ass. It would be insane with hordes of Goblins. The initial problem is that the list is already packed so tight, between artifacts, rebirth, battle cry, burn and card advantage. It would be a bit tricky to rewrite the formula to fit it in, but I think it's doable :)

Augh Banned List for Modern... Why must you be so cruel??? Alright time for some more reworking... Yah that Curse of Stalked Prey is definitely a beast in here. That ups the threat range a good 25% or more... Damn. Thanks bro.

Seems really interesting. I understand the concept, but as I was drawing sample hands I found that 2/3 of the hands didn't have enough mana sources. You should think of running some more.

0

Yeah, to be honest, the sample hands arent very good. If you actually look at the number of mana sources (10 land + 4 Mox Opal + 4 Simian Spirit Guide), you should hit one at a little over every 3 cards. That means that you should have around 2 to start, and if you dont, you should draw into one very soon.

Have you considered a fourth Goblin Guide? I think it'd be pretty solid. I'd move up to four in my own deck if I owned a fourth one. Maybe going down to three signal pest or two wardrivers would be worth the fourth guide.

Can you (or anyone else) check out my deck and comment/fix? I'm fairly new to MtG but I think I'm catching on pretty quickly. It's also a Goblin deck. With Browbeat! haha I love that card.

Have you looked into ichor wellspring, is a 2 drop that allows you to draw when it enters & leaves play. Using Sacking to a rebith basically changes it to : (2) draw two cards. I run it in my rebirth deck i have been tinkering with.

For those interested i have been working on a rebirth style deck with a twist, let me know what you think
