iona is way too expensive to hard cast, even in a control deck. especially for a control deck.

Ya, so I see the squadren hawks, and I see the 9 cost angel, I see the amount of ways that this deck has to get the swords, and I say, there is alot of room for improvement. First off, look at you mana curve.... for a control deck there shouldn't be really anything above 6. As for counter spells, you have 22, but 10 are very situational, cancel is also a very bad card, there is another (dissolve I think) that does the exact same thing but scry 1. I also question your sword choice, I think that they don't quite fit in, try to find some different ones that benefit blue or white. You are really weak against creatures, so try to add wall of denial, fog bank, or a gomazoa in here, that would cirtantly help. i would be glad to get together and talk about a modern version of caw blade, and it would be very good, but you do have the right idea and a good start

sword of feast and famine allows you to save up mana for counter spells, and to get iona out MUCH faster..., also war and peace lets you take advantage of relinquary tower (which i had forgotten to put in). basically you stock up the counter spells, and let the opponent do nothing i will look at dissolve though :) thx for the tips!!

This deck needs many improvements especially with the cards choices. There are better counters than dissolve including, Cryptic Command, Remand, Spell Snare, stuff like that. Other powerful cards for blue white in Modern also include Sphinx's Revelation and Path to Exile. Iona is something you probably wont get to and I think Detention Sphere is just better than Exclusion Ritual and Journey to Nowhere. Supreme Verdict or Wrath of God might be useful too because of the low creature count in this deck. For planeswalkers I would probably go for Elspeth rather than Gideon. Also, your mana base is too simple for Modern. Add fetchlands, shocklands, and maybe add Celestial Colonnades, Tectonic Edges, or Ghost Quarters, and cut the the Reliquary Tower because it won't do anything.
