Deck Description

Ever wanted to smash in your opponent's face relentlessly with the might of Gruul, top it off with that blue trickery we all know and love (or hate), and all within the confines of the modern format and twenty dollars? If so, then look no further!
The above deck-list is a collection featuring cards you may not have seen being used together before, but I assure you, try this deck and you'll be in for some big creature big combo madness in this fun, tri-colored budget deck.

Feel free to check out the sideboard for possible suggestions to improve the deck, just keep in mind that they were not included originally due to their price.

How to Play

So, do you see the combo? It's not the easiest to spot, but its a fun one, and quite the stylish finisher. Casting "Enter the Infinite" is quite a challenge on its own, but with the help of Zhur-Taa Ancient, it becomes a much more realistic game plan. Use your extra mana to draw your library, and, with Borborygmos on the field, discard all the lands you need to bolt your opponent to oblivion. But what about the turn you play Zhur-Taa Ancient, won't your opponent gain use of the extra mana first? Myabe, but first go on back and read Prophet of Kruphix again...you might have missed it. That mini "combo" is just one of the many unique interactions within this deck.

Truthfully, there are actually two variations with this type of deck, the focus either being the combo itself, or the extra permanents. As you can see, I went with the ladder, settling with only 1-3 copies of the combo pieces. In the end though, it's all up to personal preference; if you want to try your luck and go big or go home with the combo, feel free to bump up the copies of Prophet of Kruphix to 4 and "Enter the Infinite" to 3, or if you'd rather fall back on some more good old fashion Midrange, stay away from play-sets of the combo'ers and fit in some more well-rounded beefy dudes the Gruul has so much of.

Overall the combo should go something like this:

Have Prophet on the field, and then play Zhur-Taa --> pass the turn --> on their upkeep untap your lands and cast "Borborygmos" if he isn't already in play or if you know they could counter you and/or you can't cast negate, just hold off. Then (and this is what you should really be careful when playing or save the negate for) go ahead and lay down the "Enter the Infinite", making sure to watch their reaction when you do :). After that go ahead and ping them with Borbor and all those pretty lands you just drew, which should be lethal in tandem with your creature swing. For more style points, put your other "Enter the Infinite" back into your library, just so can't mill yourself if somehow you don't win this turn.

Once again though, the real strength of this deck, in my opinion, is it's ability to win easily without any combos.

FAQs [Deck Troubleshooting]:

What if I get an early draw on a high mana nuke like "Enter the Infinite"? Is it just a dead card in my hand for the rest of the game?

Answer: "Blast of Genius". A great option for burn and card draw, this card does something even more in this particular deck. Use it to get rid of cards just sitting in our hand you wouldn't otherwise be able to play for a long time, and trade them in for some quick and big single target damage.

Why just one nagate, and why negate at all?

Answer: This deck doesn't seem to have much room for extra blue instants, but on the turn you "go off" with your Borbor-Infinium combo, you want to make sure that your opponent doesn't get any wiggle room to interrupt your explosion of victory. By adding one nagate that you will either draw, or get with "Enter the Infinite", you can say "nah-ah" to whatever they try to pull at the last moment.

Deck discussion for [Budget]RGU: "Borbor-Infinium"

I would drop some Polukranoses for some more counter spells. I don't see it being very useful, and having only one negate limits you I feel like. If they drop something that would be lethal while you're setting your combo up, negate can come in handy. If they try and counter the ancient, then negate comes in handy, if they counter enter it comes in hand. My point is that you can always run more counter spells (until you get to around 20ish thats a bit excessive) because they will most likely get used. Otherwise looks like a really interesting fun deck, and the budget part is a nice plus!

Good Luck!
