Deck Description

This deck was inspired, once again, by Pkmnfn. It all started out when we did a draft at a friends house, and he picked up a Notion thief. Naturally, we thought about ways to break it. Nearly a year later, this deck was made. I hope you enjoy it!

After you have Notion Thief out on the board, Teferi's Puzzle Box limits your opponent to well... no hands. Use cards that make EVERYONE draw to gain card advantage, such as Vision Skeins and Lore Broker. Reliquary Tower helps you keep your hand, no limits is always better. Once you have a decent hand size, simply kill them with Sturmgeist, Aeon Chronicler or Psychosis Crawler :) Dream Fracture and Soul Manipulation for countering spells. Boomerang to keep yourself alive, or to get rid of a pesky permanent. Use Clutch of the Undercity as a tutor for the Puzzle Box or the Thief.

This deck is MODERN, and should be kept at a price under $10 in the red box.

If you like this deck, check out some of Pkmnfn's decks and my other budget decks :)

Deck discussion for [Budget] Notion Advantage

Great deck! I think there are a few beneficial substitutions that you could make.
Counterquall could be replaced with Dream Fracture, Soramaro could be switched with Time Reversal, 2 Sign in Blood could be replaced with Noggle Ransackers, and possible sideboard options/replacements for Vision Skeins could be Compulsive Research and Wistful Thinking.

The only one I'm not too sure about here is removing Soramaro- it's a flier, but doesn't offer a huge advantage in any other way because of its extremely high cmc. Lab Maniac on the board is a good call- you'll probably end up milling yourself pretty fast if you aggressively take draws from the other player. For this reason, I'd also suggest Psychic spiral as a reset button. Since this becomes much less helpful with Spellbook out, maybe you could leave Spiral on the board and sub it with the book when appropriate?

If you don't care about legality, Psychatog is another excellent option. Great job!

I made some changes according to your suggestion. I like Vision Skeins because it is essentially 4 draws for 2 mana when I have the Thief out. I took out Soramaro and switched in Aeon Chronicler.
Thank you! :)

Really cool deck.

Clutch of the Undercity would let you tutor for either the Puzzle Box or the Notion Thief.

Cool idea! Seems like it would be fun to play. I'm not sure if you've looked into it already, but Sturmgeist might be another option as far as creatures. Not sure if the extra card draw would be too much though, as you can't always count on getting Spellbook or Reliquary Tower. I'd like to hear how it plays!

The thing about Teferi's Puzzle Box that is awesome is that it cycles so many of the cards out for you, that you will run into a Reliquary Tower sooner or later. Sturmgeist is added! Thank you!

Wow I've only seen this deck now :)
I actually am making a very similar deck, so of course I like your version, too! If you would help me out, look here: http://www.mtgvault.com/cruncher/decks/card-draw/
It's still in the works and probably will end up being for multiplayer play.

This is a great deck, maybe consider Read the Bones instead of Sign in Blood? It's easier to cast since it only has 1 black symbol in it, but other than that pretty sweet stuff :)

By the time I have the combo out, I should have two black mana, but I appreciate the suggestions! Keep them coming :)

That is true but you won't always have two black mana on turn two I mean.

But I shouldn't be casting it on turn 2, it's "target player," meaning that I will cast it on my opponent when I have the Thief out, he loses 2 life and I draw 2 :)

I can't afford a land base to support green as well in this deck, because of the double black and double blues in the cards I use. Thanks though! I'll check out your deck.

With the time spiral, how about add Jace's Erasure? With so much drawing it may be an alternative wincon... Just thinking. Maybe its crab and it would only slow you down....

Like this deck a lot just wonder how good it would fair against any aggro deck with not being able to get this deck rolling until at least turn 4 if not later

Thanks for the suggestion! I have thought about Dimir Charm, but other cards kind of "out-ranked" it in this deck.

I will look at your deck. :)
