Deck Description

Finally got around to making a pure Insect tribal deck. So far in testing it's been surprisingly effective. While many strategies exist with the deck, one big one is to ramp out lands fast, and keep spamming Beacon of Creation. Because there's four in the deck and they re-shuffle in, the deck allows for this spamming pretty nicely.

I tend to stick with Ant Queen, but when I feel like it, I'll swap them out for a different pair of insect monsters =]

Removing the Cradles makes this deck very budget friendly as well.

Deck discussion for Itchy, tastey...

With so many insect tokens, maybe chord of calling for some major value?

I tried Chord, but once I started getting my hordes of insects, I was already producing enough mana to play anything I drew. It's kind of a catch-22 in that way.

Also, why harrow?

You can chain it with Khalni Heart Expedition to ramp out a stupid amount of forests. Since this deck likes to spam Beacon of Creation as much as possible, I want a LOT of forests as soon as I can.

Obelisk of Urd is nasty. Can you put some Hornet Stings in your Sideboard? I'd appreciate that so much, lol.

Did this perform well enough without you needing 'Swarmyard' to regen your sports-page splatter?

Otherwise I think it'd fit to a T ^_^

Forgive me my terrible pun. . .

Mostly I just want to keep the forest count as high as I can. Using Swarmyard could potentially lower the effect of Beacon of Creation...And I don't want that.

But that seems insanely good with Hornet Nest.

Maybe you could fit in a couple of Doubling Seasons?

You know, I've been trying to think of something to say to this, and I simply can't. The only thought that crosses my mind is to maybe try and slip in GSZ, but even that seems forced... Insect Tribal confuses me.

It confused me for a very long time too...That's why only until recently was I able to wrap my head around making this deck.

I've sat here trying to figure this out, and I still can't for the life of me.

Loving Hornet Nest been running it in standard with Sarkhan and Setessan Tactics. I know I am going out of the color take of this deck but, been thinking about running Shivan Meteor into Hornet Nest for thirteen 1/1's. Idea I could give would be possibly Muraganda Petroglyphs effecting your Ant Queen and Broodhatch Nantuko tokens and Doubling Season or Parallel Lives are excellent choices but I think it has been already address above.

When I first added Nest to this I was skeptical, but now I love it. Not sure about Shivan Meteor, but there is some potential for a nifty R/G adaptation to this deck or at least to the core idea of this deck. I think Blasphemous Act (is that the card?) would be fun with a bunch of Nests on the field.

All those are great suggestions, but since I already sort of burned my 4-5 mana slot(s) on all the Beacons (which really make this thing run) I can't afford to put any of them in. But hey, Urd is crazy so that's nice =]

I'd like to comment on this to let people know that I am still lurking on the site, and still planning to build/post some decks in the future. I recently (about the 10th of November) got promoted and to put it lightly, I came into one hell of a mess left by the person I replaced. Soooo...I've been busier than I think I have ever been in my life, and everything BUT work has been put on hold. I expect things to start settling down soon. Once that happens I hope to become active on here again, because I love this place =]

tl;dr -- Been busy y'all, but I'm still here.

* What are the BoPs for? If it's just to accelerate Harrow, I would use Llanowr Elves instead.

* Speaking of Harrow - why Harrow? You have no other basic lands besides Forests, no landfall to trigger besides the Expedition ... Cultivate would be better than Harrow in this deck in about 99% of situations.

* Obelisk of Urd ... I just don't like that card. Coat of Arms would be way better in this.

* You run zero removal. I know you don't want to lose focus, but there is a very neat way to fix this: Replace those Vitality Charms with Caustic Caterpillars and you are set!

Yeah the BoPs are for using a jump curve, and I chose them over lanny because they can *occasionally* help with blocking flyers.

The main reason I use Harrow over Cultivate in this is because it can chain into a Khalni Heart. I could play a Cultivate turn 2 and pass, or I could pop a Harrow, tap the two new lands to drop a Khalni Heart, and then next turn, if I have another one and another Harrow...oh things get silly. But even if I don't have a second of either in my hand, it's a much bigger leap more often.

I think we're going to have to agree to disagree about Urd. It's been great for me.

O___o I didn't know about Caustic Caterpillar until you mentioned it. That's perfect, thanks!

I don't understand what this deck does other than make tokens of buggos. I have only been playing for a few years but I did rock hornet queen with roaring primadox, in a mono green mana gen deck it was fun. I also had fun with giant adephage, he does not make his token that fast but maybe prey apron to get that trample. Idk sounds cool but wth do I know lol. +1

That's what it's supposed to do is make lots of buggos. This is a tribal insect deck for my shop's Tribal format. the decks use a certain creature type almost exclusively. For this one, it's insects.
