Deck Description

EDH based around Ink-Treader Nephilim. Yeah I know it isnt legendary, but many groups, mine included, allow Nephilim as generals.

How to Play

Use Inky to turn otherwise normal spells into entirely different things altogether. You WILL be essentially beating the crap out of Inky, and most likely, so will the other players (usually not to kill it, but to also make use of its ability). Because of this, as the game goes on you will want to drop down more and more buffs to Inky, thus the enchants and lieges. A tricky general to use, but a fun one with what the ability lets you and your fellow players do =]

Spinal Tap \m/ That scene rivals the Cantonese takeout scene from Wayne's World man!
I can't wait to see what you do with Ink-Treader, it should be interesting to say the least

Im still trying to figure out what exactly I want to do with the deck, but yeah, I know whatever path this de k takes, it'll be interesting. Ink-Treader is too weird for it not to =]

I strongly advise trying to slip in some bounce, chain of vapor for instance, in this deck. It's one of those moves that seems to hilarious not to :P

Also, the two smokestacks in my last deck have made people curse at me, disconnect, and leave an online tournament.

Thanks for entering the Deck Challenge!

Cool, Personally i would run this as a Spell Replicating type of deck. Some things you may want in it:

- Riku, of Two Reflections (most spell-dupe decks have this as a general, but use him anyway!)
- Dual Casting (for Extra fun!)
- Rite of Replication (ever see the article on google docs about Precursor Golem + x2 Kicked Rite of Replications? if not, do it, it will blow your mind)
- Precursor Golem (why not?)
- Cackling Counterpart
- Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker
- Splinter Twin
- Heat Shimmer
- Spitting Image
- Followed Footsteps
- Mirror-Sigil Sergeant
- Parallel Evolution (HOLY SH*T dupe^2)
- Wort, the Raidmother

Basically every thing that dupes anything. Have fun :)

Oh, and if you want to go down that path, you will need Mirror Gallery

BTW, could you make any suggestions: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=364321

Well that's the thing, our group looks at Nephilim as legendary if they're used as generals, so like you said, I would need to run Mirror Gallery. I decided against that because I don't want to structure a 99 card deck around just one card...

The way I have this set up, I still get spell replication, but in a way that makes each of my selected spells in here perform way better, or in some cases, as entirely different spells. Flame Slash for example becomes a one-mana board wipe, Vapor Snag becomes like a Pox, and Debt of Loyalty basically will make opponents scoop =]

I might make another Nephilim EDH with a more token-y theme, so I'll probably use a number of those cards for that.

perhaps a swift foot boots so your opponents cant play a go for the throat and wipe the board, on your nephilim and perhaps more shroud abilities, to protect the creatures you want to keep if you decide to do some shenanigans with some funny effect like boomerang or go for the throat etc.ya know?

Oddly enough most people I play against harm Ink-Treader less than I do =P

Other players like to use his ability too, and it makes games fun as hell. Thanks for commenting =]

Despite lacking any shroud or hexproof etc. this general is one of the most removal-proof creatures around. you do not want to use a kill spell on it, because then you kill everything else on the board. something like that could even make you a target of other players' scorn. aside from killing everything, those players might have wanted ink-treader around for the benefits of its ability. as strange as it might sound i would not even put protection of any kind on it. players will soon learn the consequences of using the wrong spell on it.

A young man asked Socrates,

"What's the Secret of Success?"

Socrates told the young man to meet him near the river the next morning.

They met. Socrates asked the young man to walk with him into the river.

When the water got up to their necks,
Socrates grabbed the young man and then pushed his head under the water.

The young man struggled to get out,
but Socrates was strong
and kept him there until he started turning blue.

The young man struggled hard and finally managed to break the surface
and the first thing he did was to gasp and take deep breath.

Socrates asked "What was it you wanted the most when you were there?"
The man replied "Air!"
Socrates said "That's the secret to success".
"When you want Success as badly as you wanted air, you will get it".

EDH is still no-mans land for me! I'm like the young man in the quote , I only see a chaotic mess with my blind eyes, but I'm eager to discover the golden path :)

Don't mind the over-drama quote.

+1!

Brought a smile to my face there maiske.
And about EDH, don't worry. Looking at decklists is time-consuming, arcane, and generally not worth the effort in such a diverse, varied format. That said, EDH is one of the most fun formats to play, and I strongly recommend trying it. You should find some friends who play, borrow one of their decks or whip one up yourself. Just look for easy synergies and you'll find a deck that's very fun to pilot.

To surewhynot: is this site going to get worse before it gets better? Looking at the top decks, I see a bunch of random, shitty decks that will fail to win in casual or fail to top 8 at FNM. Not only are they not good, most are not creative. I've heard about an update to the site that will come soon, and I'm not sure if even that could help.
And also, have you seen the new standard Lingering Pox deck? I'm thinking about making Poxtraction before rotation. I tried a shitty Pox Reanimator, but I think right now I have the chance to make a solid deck, abusing Liliana, Nihil Spellbomb, Surgical, Lingering, Zombies, and Sun Titan... Your thoughts? I might post a decklist...

Yeah, the site has gone downhill, and the admins have admitted they can see it. The way they plan to fix things should clear out all of this "riff-raff", we'll see. I just keep helping people out where I can, and ride this out until things get better.

And Maiske, you can feel free to ask any questions you may have about EDH =]

Looking at the currrent situation, one can't alone blame the player's at this site for creating shitty decks, you've got to look deeper than that. With the all growing interest towards the standard scene & limited options available in deck creations results in more and more crap getting through, but it's also a positive sign that such a downfall is recognized. Wizard's still the one who keeps the powercards in their hands, and has the possibility to make changes on the field. I understand many old player's like to keep their noses out of standard because of its limited options. It's a business afterall, and money rules over everything in society and wellfare. Wizard and the co-workers are no exception. I'm aware of the fact I'm stating the obvious here, but before judging the current status of the player's and their creativity you have to broaden the horizon, and look at things from a wider angle. Stimulus = Response.

By merchandising MTG over to the world of entertainment electronics, with the launch of the Duels of the Planeswalker gamesseries for xbox,ps3 & PC back in '11, has without a doubt brought a lot of newcomers, and even old players (like me) to the scene. Their knowledge and creativity's based on less experience and having missed most of the editions before today results in attempts of failing miserably in the eyes of veterans to the sport. It's not all that black and white ofcourse, but if the majority around here for example have a similar background what else can you expect? Therefore standard provides an easy/easier way to get familiar with the game again, especially if one's in a hurry to compete.I don't see standard scene as a failed attempt, as narrowing the utility of cards pushes one to being creative as well, the only real downside I feel's the abusing of extremely powerful & ridicolously expensive cards, thus coming back to the money leeching of the big companies. If u don't have such cards, you're screwed, and also it makes decks look more or less monotone & grey, when the lack of variation, every sideboard looking the same color by color.

Ehhh, enough with the gibberish, as with this site and its problem/s. The top deck section seems to get overflooded by such standard decks mentioned above, and non-relevant talk in between suggestions and arguments. Argumenting and constructive critisim feeds the learningprogress & cuts back on ignorance. I like seeing decks on the frontpage that are a result of different point of views, fresh and innovative. Decks that refuse to alter in the progress, without changing a bit, despite all the creative feedback and suggestions don't deserve the acknowledgement. It's nice to see decks that work their way to the top, adjusting in the progress and becoming a deck characterized by co-operation, encouragement and support/liking. That's what the fundamentals of the community's about. :)

Even this reply failed to bring any advices and or substantial support to your deck SWN, but I felt like clearing my mind :)

In my opinion, there should be an update where there is a page for top decks(quality) and decks that have received lots of attention. The first one could be for decks that are powerful or unique and are inspiring or something. That page could be for just pure likes(not comments), and 15-20 likes on a deck would make it hit front page. The second top decks page would have a lot of the same decks you guys are describing.

The thing is, a lot of people post their decks online hoping to get some advice, like me. I'm still trying to figure out whether I should take the vampire approach or make a control deck with clones. I think I will find out once I get some advice from people.

This might be a stupid idea, but a separate page for tournament quality decks would be cool, too. Even though a lot of people do label their shitty standard decks as tourney quality, an actual lab for brewing a new competitive deck would be great. And fluffy, I might check out your decklists.

Camel will be my new commander... after all who needs legendary creatures :D

0

The difference between the nephilim and the camel is that the if the camel was printed after commander became popular, it would still be not be legendary. If the nephilim were printed after commander became the biggest casual game type, chances are they would be made legendary.

Also, there is a large number of commander groups who give exceptions to creatures like the nephilim, and I think there are a few other creatures, but I can't remember those.

Not to mention the Nephilim aren't just the only 4 colored creatures, they're the only 4 colored cards period.

Fire/Ice, Crippling Chill, and Niveous Wisps all offer very interesting ways to play tapdown control, and draw like mad at the same time. Magma Jet is also fun since you can scry in a similar fashion. Other than that, I've got nothing.

<_< Crippling chill would be pretty dirty...

However I just had a game with this where the record for funniest/dirtiest thing to cast on Inky was broken TWICE! Record breaker #1 was Polymorph, and record breaker #2 was...Vanish into Memory

@_@ I... I don't know what to say about Vanish into Memory cast on Ink-Treader, that's insane!

And I asked a token EDH player how they felt about Crippling Chill on Ink-Treader, and they sent me this.

I can only assume of the shenanigans that ensued, it's a good way to slow a game down. It drives this to the point I think it's much more dickish than my Witch-Maw EDH, which is something I've yet to see elsewhere except a Thalia EDH I saw once or twice.

Also, I've started posting things on here again, so you can expect a few floods on the weekends. I've been abusing the hell out of Gut Shot lately in competitive play, with the surge of Tempo & Stoneblade as the area go-to aggro-control/control-aggro builds, it's great to pop off a creature for two life.

Probably some kind of algorithm for hot decks. It has all these views/likes/comments and then someone new gives it a like and bam, on the hots. That’s my guess at least. This deck has actually changed very little since I posted it too. Still a ton of fun to play.
