Why's that? If I may ask?

Maybe because you can proliferate it, you can sac it to the Throne when it runs out of counters and it can tap down your Contagion Engine...

I can look at the 2 black sac decks, but I'll have you know I'm a self-proclaimed dumbass when it comes to Astral Slide. =]

If you could splash red, splinter twin + teacher could get counters out of control. Also Mimic vat perhaps?

Honestly, I've never had a moment where I really needed more teachers. The levelers I use are meant to work that way.

Just seems obnoxious that you could stack tons of counters for 3 cost and have it available every turn.

Have you actually played this deck out? Truth be told I've found myself avoiding the 'levelers' because very few of them seem worth spending the mana to upgrade, but you have shown me that there is a decent set of them.

Throne of Geth... why? Is it just meant to self-sac for a 1 time proliferation of your level up counters? While slower, I've had great success using Congagion Clasps when I ran a level up deck, as they add another element of removal and control.

Also, what do you think about Hex Parasite with levelers?

0

The Throne has done wonders for the deck honestly. Just 2 colorless mana for a speedy proliferate is great when you have these high-cost, low threshold levelers.

As for Hex Parasite...I dunno, it would be a weird style for sure.

Only reason I questioned Throne of Geth is because of it's dependence upon Venerated Teacher to do anything really overwhelming. Level up is otherwise too slow on its own and therefore I've found Contagion Clasp to be more helpful in stalling my opponent and providing mid-game proliferations. Still, even if you only have one or two level up counters, proliferating them for {2} could be a huge discount. Just two different styles is all :) It's definitely a good fit.

Hex Parasite, I was thinking might be an interesting / tricky twist. Eat the level up counters off a creature that would otherwise be destroyed, or eat the excess counters off creatures after multiple Teachers / proliferations. As well as eat counters from Walkers or -1/-1 counters from Infectors. Could potentially sneak by for some big damage.

Wow and it's standard lol. Have you play-tested this yet? It seems like it levels up pretty quickly, but how does it do on defense?

0

It's not going to win any tournaments, but it is pretty good and fast. As defenses go, the deck is pretty solid. Ikaral Outrider is a frickin' tank, and Hedron Field Purists will basically make you unkillable.

As far as offense, Hada Spy Patrol with Time of Heroes is just funny.

That's true lol, I missed the Outrider in there. It may not win tournaments, but it actually looks like alot of fun to play with. People are goona love sideboarding Day of Judgement and Damnation against it though.

Wow. I'm pretty new here, and I'm pretty new as a MTG player in general. I've seen a bunch of decks and strategies so far and I found this one pretty damn good. Keep it up. There are alot of players here how need people like you. Trust me, I would know XD

Maybe venser to bounce vernerated out and keep getting counters, his bomb is Rad, and his unblockable ability could also be used here quite well. Idk, maybe 2 in here, instead of hada spy patrol. Just because you get the unblockable ability for more creatures? that's my thought. Cool deck otherwise.

I commented, but blatantly advertising your decks without also contributing something to the deck you commented on is frowned upon. The Vault community doesn't thrive upon stealing some of the spotlight, it's all about giving a little and getting a little ;)

I really like this deck. My concerns would be lack of removal and flying defense, but like you said in a previous comment: the purists should stop just about anything that gets thrown at you. I also find it interesting that you only included 2 Training Grounds. I haven't played it or anything, but it looks like the toughest part of playing this deck would be the expense of getting the first level on a creature. After that you could just proliferate to your heart's desire.

Here's a somewhat similar leveler deck I made: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=174784

Training grounds= 4 of in this deck. also the throne of geth really doesn't belong i think

I can see how the throne could be very helpful, but I think that the only way to know for sure is to play with it and see

how come you never added the echo mage, or master transmuter., i would remove the spy patrol and add 2 of each of these two levelers.
anyway awesome idea i love the level up ability in magic and this is the best i have seen so far, if u get the chance check out my chancellor deck i'm trying to make it tournament quality.

Hello Surewhynot - Ive sure missed checking out your decks - this is another beauty!

Not much to comment on, however, personally, Id give it a bit of a heavier spell focus. Throw 4X Echo Mage in and several proliferate spells like Fuel for the Cause and Steady Progress and its like grabbing one of Mario's Super Mushrooms! (oh and I agree with the commentor above - coralhelm commanders is sweet especially if you want to make the deck have a fishier flavor....as a matter of fact. I think I will do that for myself!)

dude you always create the best decks, some strategy that's for sure, I would possibly suggest that you try out coralhelm commanders they are a {UU} 22 that levels up for 1. gains flying and gives other merfolk +1/+1.
