Deck discussion for Shimmer

does the etched champion get the buff from tempered steel when it has metalcraft?

Yeah, since Tempered Steel is not targeting him directly.

i like wurmcoil engine but i think you should consider steel hellkite instead since he's flying and has a killer ability that would give you some removal which you don't really have any of. Also i don't really see the point of the mox opals. It seems like you could just put plains in their place since your playing one color and the fact that you have a lot of zero to low cost things any way.

The reasoning behind mox opals is that it serves as an incredibly powerful mana accelerant. Think about it, if he had plains in there, he'd have a standard mana ramp-up: 1, 2, 3, 4 etc. But, because Mox Opals don't take up the time on the ramp, it's that plus the instant opal. Let's say he got three on the first turn, plus a land. That's first turn four mana. That's a gamechanging amount of power instantly, let alone adding to any metalworking required.

Well it would be 4 mana turn 1 except the mox opals are legendary so you can only have 1 at a time.

lol double-post. Anyway I have the mox opals in there because of some crazy shenanigans I can do with them and Glint Hawk, such as playing out my entire hand on turn 1, thus having a massive board presence right at the start.

Not a bad deck, i'm curious of your shenanigans with Glint Hawk and Mox Opal. Only suggestion i have is a Wurmcoil Engine/Mimic Vat combo.

Glint hawk requires you to return an artifact to your hand. So return the Mox Opal and play it again, allowing you to tap it for mana again. =]

@Port: I could, but then it would suck =P

What about Ardent Recruit from Mirrodin Besieged instead of Auriok or Bonesaw? It's not an artifact so it wont get the Overseer and Tempered bonus but still, 3/3 for {W} is quite awesome :)

Actually you should just update this deck with the new set, there's some great stuff in there!

i've always been more of a fan of Shuko, but hey that's just me. i like crazy cards.

okay so maybe its just me, but you might want to put in a few more plains... I know you have ancient den and mox opal for production, but my first like 10 sample hands got a tempered steel i was unable to play for like the first 8 turns :/

Pretty nice deck. Court would be better than Ardant. Not sure about bonesaw, but maybe. Also, I would throw in 2-3 Elspeth for consistency. Nice work though

I don't think 16 land is enough.. even my current goblin/dragon aggro decek with 22 lands and 60 cards total, the chance of me getting a land drop every turn is impossible. The thing is all my stuff are SUPER low cost, as in only 5 3 costs, a bunch of 1's and 2's, no 4 costs, and four 5 costs. (i actually have 20 1 cost). Here you have more 2 costs than 1 costs. and the same amount of 3 costs as 1 costs, which will be quite a big problem. You may want to build your decks off "sligh" style, which allows you to get out the right cards in order (most likely).

It's all about the mana curve. MANA CURVE!

Nice deck anyways!

That looks like a fantastic deck to me. Still, I kept thinking "Indomitable Archangel could be one heck of a defense for this deck, since it has Metalcraft-induced Shroud for all your artifacts." I still think that, although your deck certainly appears strong enough as it is.

Mishra's factory is a really nice card in this deck, and the Urza's set works nice. How about some dispatch?

most of the sample draws I have done entail playing 5 cards from your hand on turn one. ridiculous :D
example:
mox opal, ancient den, memnite, memnite, glint hawk/ auriok elderwright/ ardent recruit. then two turns later mishra's gets out a wurmcoil, that is just fast. great deck.

just wondering but with all of the different decks that you have how do you remember them all to update with new cards?

just sitting here amazed. :)

Honestly, this site helps out with that a lot. I can just run through them and think of any new cards that could improve them. Posters like you also help a ton =]

I also play all of my decks at the shop...I have a few I always bring, and then pick a number of other ones at random...so from playing them I also spot changes I can make =]

I'm not sure I've helped you out with any of your decks to be honest. But I do like going through yours and just checking them out. :)

I wish I had more decks that I could just thumb through and play. :) I've got a few that are pretty fun and in my eyes are competative. mainly the R/W artifact equipment and the G trample decks. :)
