Counter 'n' Miller

Main Deck (60 cards)

Land (18)

Sideboard (0 cards)

No sideboard found.

The owner of this deck hasn't added a sideboard, they probably should...

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

I wanted to make a deck, where you were able to win without actually dealing any damage to your opponent. Tada.

I also wanted to make a deck there was quite fun to play, and not another 2nd turn win.
The times I've played it through, I've won within ten turns. Besides that you get to laugh at your opponent while his library just shrinks in to literally nothing, and he really can't touch your life point. Sweet victory.

How to Play

Most of the spells cost only one mana to play, so I gues you can see where this is going.
By the fifth round you will have your opponent losing a bunch of cards from his deck every turn, and theres nothing he can do about it. But if he tries to pull you down with any creatures, you can either counter him to the bones or just play Jace's Phantasm which will be a 5/5 with flying for only one mana, if your opponent has ten or more cards in his graveyard. And that he does.
You now have a beast of a wall out to protect your shit, while his library slowly gets thinner and thinner, and it only costed you one single mana.

Deck discussion for Counter 'n' Miller

Welcome to the wonderfull era of mill!
Mill is being played in standard, and by some individuals also in modern and legacy.

A small select group of millers are watching out for new blood and mill-concepts in mtgvault, and you have the dubious honor of being stalked by me, wickeddarkman.

I'll suggest that you get rid of curse of the bloody tome and either replace it with mind sculpt (1U mills 7) or mesmeric orb (Mills between 5-6 or 11-14 depending on opponents decktype).

Another alternative would be mind grind, but then you would have to rid yourself of the shriekhorns (Use vision charms) and you must chose mind sculpt above mesmeric orb.

For your sideboard consideration try out surgical extraction for use against reanimate or emrakul.

I think that should cover the basics.

I have been building a lot of different millingdesigns for legacy and modern, so you might consider taking a look at my decks to see how I troubleshoot!

Welcome to the grinding station!

Thanks, I really appreciate it.
I havn't played in the new series yet, so Legacy Mill just kinda happen.

As you can see, I've used your advice about the Tomes and replace them with Mind Sculpt. They flow alot better with the rest of the deck due to their low mana cost, so I can play multiple at same time.
I can also see the point of using Mesmeric Orb, but don't you lock yourself in a spot, where you can't untap your own mana or creatures without the risk of losing some good cards to the graveyard? Of course it's a minor concern, but still.

Surgical Extraction seems to make a good Reanimate counter, but I havn't really played Mill like for real yet, so I have no idea of what people are gonna be throwing at me.
I'm not that happy about Mind Grind though, because I like to keep it mono blue. But think it would work even better with a bunch of other Demir cards and maybe Laboratory Maniac, just as a trumph.

I've already taken a short look at some of your decks, and I must say I have to play mine before I'm in any position, to make any proper comments to those, haha. Though I might take a few more peaks at your modern decks.

I really appreciate the critique!

SVAMPESOVS: (Are you Danish? I am! Your "name" is Danish in nature)

If you take mesmeric orb to the extremes, say you play a land each turn, you have 4 mesmeric orbs that you play as fast as possible AND you tap out every single turn, that will kill you at exactly your turn 7. If you can't win before turn 7 you are usually dead anyways.

In more than 50 games I think I have had to slow down perhaps 2 times, so mesmeric orb isn't that much of a threat to your own deck, and your mill will punish your opponent even faster. Also, mesmeric orb works wonders with dream twist, which is part of my primary deck. If you prefer having many creatures you may consider to play stuff like bloodghast with the orb! Use mesmeric orb to get flashback cards online, like darkblast or increasing confusion.

Sorry about mindgrind, I meant sanity grind!

What are the odds, yeah I'm danish. Chose the username, since I figured not many other languages have that pronouncing of a word, so I could almost be sure to get it. It figures som other places too.

Arh, I see! Thats actually quite nice. Might get a few of those as well, just to try it out. Seems to make a hell of a combo, when you put it that way. And when you've played some other spells from rounds before, some Sculpts etc, you can just sit and watch as the game ends.
I've thought of making a flashback deck too, but got stuck en the Mill counter part, so I think I try this out first and slowly spread out.

Sanity Grinding fits way better than Mind Grind, yeah! Definitely a card there needs to be considdered. A bit more expensive than the other cards though, both irl money and mana, but still affordable.

Taking a break with legacy-mill!

sneakshow, omnishow, dreamshow, reanimate, tin-fins, hivemind, elfcombo and even an enchantress deck with emrakul in it is just over the top for me, so I'm shutting it down intil the meta gets rid of emrakul.

Nice. I'd use Mana Leak instead of Negate. I love the concept of this and I have a mill deck based around Jace's Phantasm as well http://www.mtgvault.com/soulofmirrodin/decks/mill-aggro/
