contaminated ground and dying wish are definitely not good enough for standard constructed, and i would be surprised if viper's kiss, festering newt, and drainpipe vermin are. Even though those are black permanents and instants and sorceries aren't, i would put more spot removal in. Otherwise you'll probably get run over long before you get to the black devotion goodies

I mostly agree. and running 1 dark prophecy is pointless u might as well run none. u probably wont draw one to have out by turn 3. If u want to see better devotion design. check out my mono black devotion, and my black devotion with splash of green (fear the dead). what's debatable in my devotion deck is what to run at 3cmc for creatures. and maybe at 4 cmc. but u have to consider whats on the market atm. I think devotion will get better when the next set is released!

I think u need a sac outlet. and maybe drop the Agent of fates. IDK what vipers kiss is doing here. Seems out of place. u have too many 1 drops with that and the festering newt. Which makes no since when u wouldn't want to self target the agent with a harmful spell to get off heroic. I mean u could. I just don't like it, unless it's needed (game winning strategy). (Vipers kiss) it's not going to have any impact in standard. frankly I dislike Festering newt, but it's a decent blocker, that can knock out a 2/2. with all the low CmC cards u got, you'll have a hard time winning. This isn't an Extort deck, which needs more low cmc.
I wanted to make it a faster deck than many of the others in theros. I mainly use agent of fates with the nighthowlers and the viper's kiss just to stop the activated abilities mainly and easily drop some small creatures in the way when i swing. It came in handy at the tournament I played at. Also, the festering newts and all the deathtouch are to slow the other person down and scare them away from swinging. If they do, I can trade creatures and nighthowler on agent gets all the bigger.
