Deck Description

Link some life, kill some dudes, then bring out the big guns. This deck is a modified version of an old budget deck I made a while back. When infused with the new Dragons Gate cards, it gets a lot more fun around the table. A cheap, fun , casual deck.

How to Play

Basically there are three main ways to win;

1) Ramp your life up to 30 as fast as possible, cast Chalice of Life (which becomes Chalice of Death) and nail your opponent with 5 direct damage each turn.

2) Similar to above, ramp to 30 (nail your opponent with as many flyers to bring life to 10 or less) and cast the Blood Baron who should be a +10/+10 flyer with lifelink.

3) Lifelink is great. Doubling or even tripling that lifegain with Rhox faithmender is even better. But the best part of this deck is triggering Vizkopa Guildmages ability "whenever you gain life, each player loses that much life". Imagine triggering that ablity for 3, then playing a elixir of immortality for 2. Even with one Rhox out that's 10 damage to each player just for gaining life and you could still attack or cast Cathedral Sanctifier on the same turn to do even more. Cast exquisite blood and it's over.

DON'T FORGET, linking life along the way is going to keep this slow deck going via Rhox Faithmender (doubles your lifegain and stacks), or Exquisite Blood. There's also a few O Rings for good measure :)

Deck discussion for Gain a little, deal a lot

I'd switch the angel's mercy for vizkopa guildmage he's great for the deck and it's auto kill with exquisite blood.

Instead of angel's mercy, you might want to try rest for the weary

20 lands isn't enough to run a deck like this. I would personally run 23 or 24 in order to be able to summon Blood Baron on time. Guildmage is no good because it doesn't really serve a function. I would add more removal because once you get the lifelink package with Rhox and NIghthawk online it's awesome. You might want to splash in another color like Green or Blue to make the mana base a little bit better. This adds either ramp elements with green, or draw power with blue to get to your main threats. I don't see Pontiff as necessary because at the moment you don't have enough mana to cast or make his extort ability useful.

I'm going to figure out a better mana strategy without killing the dynamic of the deck (going to playtest this today), thanks for the suggestions :)

The guildmage is in there to facilitate the guildmage/exquisite blood infinite damage/life combo. Not to mention a cheap 2/2 was needed here to replace another and keep the overall curve around 3 mana

The combo is too conditional and it takes up too many spots in the deck for a win condition. Those 6 cards could be used for something help that will speed the aggro part of the deck. Anyways, it's a cool concept but it'll be hard to make a functioning standard playable deck. Good luck!

To me pontiff of blight is underwhelming. Extort is at its best when you can extort early and by the time the pontiff hits the board its a bit late imho. The cathedral santificer is also worth taking out I think. I would try to get 4 copies of Syndic of tithes and Kingpin's pet in. They are efficient beaters who fit well with your extort plan.

Ok so after play testing for a few games I think sideboarding the Pontiff is the best way to go. I also upped the mana base a bit. I managed to go 3 and 1 in 4 games against a few different decks. Really happy with the lifegain here as well, one match I finished with 67 life after 5 turns. Thanks for the input everyone :)
