Deck Description

Hello everybody, this my first attempt at deck-building for BFZ Standard, so please give me as much feedback as possible!

For this deck tech, I took inspiration from SBMTG & Tolarian's "Mono-Black Warrior Aggro" builds from several months ago. Unfortunately, those deck lost several key players due to rotation, such as Tormented Hero & Mogis's Marauder. My updated version plays in a similar fashion, however I've included a few new "tricks".

In the spirit of the aforementioned deck techs, I've tried to keep this one well under $50. Current TCG price for this deck is between $25-$50. Plus, most of you will have some of these cards lying around anyways, so why not run a gimmicky deck?

How to Play

The goal of this deck is pretty simple; keep the aggression up through a constant barrage of low-cost creatures and removal spells. We're playing 23 creatures under 3 mana, so our chances of securing a dominant board presence by turn two/three are fairly high. Most of our creatures are still subject to bigger threats like Siege Rhino, however a well-timed Despise or Ruinous Path can swing the game in our favor.

The mid-game is a bit difficult for us because we need time to set up, however I've included two options. First, we need to set Drana up. Her +1/+1 to all friendly attacking creatures will ensure the survival of many of our creatures going forward. I've included two copies of Sidisi, Undead Vizier, as well as a third copy of Drana in the main deck to guarantee her presence each game, however I'm certain there's a better way to get her out on the field (recommendations?).

Secondly, I absolutely love the combo of Zulaport Cutthroat/Brutal Hordechief. If we can get both cards into action, our opponent is playing on a ticking clock. Every time we attack, we gain life while they take direct damage (per attack!). Working in reverse is Zulaport Cutthroat's ability, which ensures that whenever one of our creatures dies, our opponent will take direct damage in addition to healing us.

This combo can be difficult to set up, so if need be use Blood-Chin Rager and Graveblade Marauder to direct the flow of combat and set up a board stall. We can still win without the combo play, however Drana's ability is key. We have plenty of creatures that can dash in and regenerate, we just need to make sure that our opponent can't get going.

As for sideboard options, I've just included some cards that can help in certain situations. If you're opponent is playing control, drop Despise for the additional Duress. Feel free to use any removal card such as Murderous Cut, Ultimate Price, Crux of Fate, etc. If you want to pimp this deck out, you could include a few copies of Liliana, Defiant Necromancer or Ob Nixlilis, Reignited. I haven't been able to play-test the deck with either card, but you could probably drop Sidisi for either one.
