Deck Description

This is a deck I've been messing around with on cockatrice when i don't feel like playing esper and losing to humans over and over. It's a Grixis control that focuses on low cost spells that effect board state, using conservative play and Chandra to support itself later in the game against more powerful threats. my testing shows it to be decently consistent with the proper opening. these colors are over looked a lot in the meta i play in. people Believe Grixis is weak. "wait for Gatecrash." is what they say when it's brought up. silly people.

How to Play

Playing this is rather simple compared to more synergy focused control decks.

Your goal: Get Nicol Bolas in play and keep him there or set up a stable board presence with Olivia or Niv (i find Niv better at stabilizing you while Olivia can win the game by her self with proper support.)

How do?: Pretty simple. how do you play any control deck? you manipulate there hand and board to suit you later. stabilize then drop something they have no way of stopping while your interfering with them.

Must aggro decks simply loss the second mutilate resolves; assuming you have a hand left to keep a grip on them. control is more complicated, as you need to play around them.

How it works early: assuming you have a decent hand you should work towards your mid game, the faster the game leaves this stage the better. some decks work the same way, with these just playing lands is ok as they will probably do the same. against faster aggressive decks you need to deal with threats the best you can to avoid taking to much damage. its ok to take some damage to hold onto your tragic slip/charm/mizzium mortars unless its looking really bad.

Mid game: against control this is when things get interesting, alot of wrestling with counterspells will accure over cards like staff of nin, keyrunes and sometimes chandra. if you've made it to this point against a fast aggro deck like zombies or humans and still have a hand your probably going to win, just keep your grip. against midrange you need to have your board wipes avalible in advance. think about what you really dont want to see and save counterflux and charms for those. something thats really interesting is -2ing chandra then passing the turn. this really confuses people and they often play right into double charms. if they dont you can just cast 2 think twise at there endstep which is fun to.

End game: Resolve Bolas, ?????, Profit.

Sideboard: this is the fun part. the sideboard for this deck is very geared towards outright ruining peoples decks before they get going, making up for the ehh control match up. it allows you to do some truly insane stuff. i've had games were i cast slaughter games four times in two turns. i took damage and lost chandra for it but they lost roughly a forth of there deck and all there wincons.
