The cult of Doran

by TheParagon on 10 February 2014

Main Deck (60 cards)

Sideboard (13 cards)

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

How to Play

Birds of paradise turn 1, doran turn 2...

..or treefolk harbringer turn 1 to fetch a land if you have doran but need a land, a harbringer if you got lands and another harbringer on the hand (that way you can attack with 3 "3/3" turn 3 [3 harbringers])

Indomitable ancients is a nice turn four and can be fetched.

Spellskite are nice turn 2 and helps protect doran, plus it gets 4 in attacking power (not to mention it's anti aura).

Reveiallark can fetch most cards from your graveyard and it can be a good thing that elspeth can kill it.

Elesh norn is a joker and actually becomes stronger due to doran.

Elspeth is mostly for boardwipes but the +1 is nice also.

Ensnaring bridge stops enemies creatures but not yours from attacking

And then some instants/sorceries for control and unpredictability, tower defense being my personal favourite ;)

Deck discussion for The cult of Doran

May I suggest Elspeth Tirel over your current Elspeth?

Not sure it's needed since I play with maelstrom pulse and abrupt decay? But it's not an easy choice. Feel free to motivate further though, I'm always open for suggestions

I just figure it's boardwipe ability is better (even with taking another turn), which is what you mention as the advantage of Elspeth, Sun's Champion and the +2 is good too in a control deck. It still has the soldier tokens but at -2 which certainly a disadvantage but it has good synergy with the rest of the card I feel and it can be quite useful still. It's also 5 cmc instead of 6, which is nice.

Still as you say, it's not an easy choice, I certainly wouldn't be surprised if you stuck with your current Elspeth - it's a brilliant card! Another thought: perhaps Tree of Redemption as a powerful creature with Doran out and able to keep your life total in a cozy zone?

i've considered tree of redemption, and perhaps with trostani, selesnya's voice. rhox faithmender would be pretty awesome too and perhaps 1 sapling of colfenor (which is fetchable). I've just created the deck so haven't play tested it enough yet to know, but some kind of life gain is always good to have (especially with shock lands and spellskite , although BoP can produce blue mana).

Thanks for the ideas :)

Pernicious Deed and some sort of landramp could be added but I still like this deck. Alot.

I highly recommend fetchlands in a 3 color deck. Also reflecting pool works like a charm with murmuring bosk. I have been working on a doran modern deck, take a peek if you have a minute.

+1 from me!
